The short story shared real and accessible personalities that hooked me. I fell in love with Eloise and even found myself cheering for the butler. Beautifully done - Demain des L’Aube was a powerful climax to story

Rich and complex characters
Revisado: 01-15-25
Reader’s voice was unfortunate and did not help bring out the personality of the characters involved.
Otherwise it was rich and engaging

The build-up of both the plotand characters was compelling. The book started slowly for me but I was riveted by it halfway through. I imagined coming down on the TGV through the Drome and into Avignon.
I have always loved Cezanne’s paintings - and now i am caught up into his biography!

Story held me Guessing
Revisado: 07-18-23
I was held captive by the plot line, trying to identify the guilty parties. The complex psychology of an arsonist, as well as that of an adolescent, was riveting. All of this is backed up by a growing love story and the beauty of

Historia
In 1942, the Gestapo sent out an urgent transmission: "She is the most dangerous of all Allied spies. We must find and destroy her." The target in their sights was Virginia Hall, a Baltimore socialite who talked her way into Special Operations Executive, the spy organization dubbed Winston Churchill's "Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare." She became the first Allied woman deployed behind enemy lines and - despite her prosthetic leg - helped to light the flame of the French Resistance, revolutionizing secret warfare as we know it.

A story that should transform all of us
Revisado: 06-29-23
I could not put this book down once I began. It is a story of commitment to principle, sacrifice in service and love in action. Sadly it is also a story of the way men disregard the gifts and leadership of women. For everyone in either military or ecclesial leadership this is a must read. Inspiring and sobering at the same time

Historia
Evan Evans is a young police constable who has traded in the violence of city life for idyllic Llanfair, a Welsh village tucked far away from trouble. Nestled among the Snowdonia mountain range, Llanfair looks to Constable Evans like a town forgotten by time, but he quickly learns that even the bucolic countryside has its share of eccentric - and deadly - characters.

A delightful novel whose theme hymn is still ringing in my head. Constable Evans caught my heart and showed me a courageous man whose humility and integrity are refreshing amidst an age of anxious anger and poor listening. I await his romantic yearning to be fulfilled.

Historia
From the cassoulet that won a war to the crêpe that doomed Napoleon, from the rebellions sparked by bread and salt to the new cuisines forged by empire, the history of France is intimately entwined with its gastronomic pursuits. A witty exploration of the facts and legends surrounding some of the most popular French foods and wines by a French cheesemonger and an American academic, A Bite-Sized History of France tells the compelling and often surprising story of France from the Roman era to modern times.

Helpful but caught by its own criteria
Revisado: 10-14-22
This book was helpful and insightful about how the gastronomy of France reveals and intersects with key historical events. However, it ran to the very over generalized conclusions it was condemning in contemporary movements. I wish that the book had stayed with local identity and tradition rather than yield to sweeping statements with which it concluded.
