Historia
In the spring of 1903, the 311, known to locals as “The Majestic”, carried more than 100 passengers on board toward a tunnel mouth that would allow the 13-car locomotive to pass safely through the underbelly of the Canadian Rockies. The tunnel swallowed the 311 whole, and the train - and everyone on it - were never seen again.

The problem with lying about having a super weapon is that the bad guys might believe they have nothing to lose by doing something stupid that both sides will regret. Or, they might just call your bluff. Either way, the Merry Band of Pirates need a plan to deal with the Fallout.

Back to the best
Revisado: 01-11-22
Super short review here…this book is great! It didn’t feel like a grind, lots of laughs, action, and it’s back to what drew me into the series so deeply (not that it was bad the previous few books, it’s just a lot better to me and reminded me of the best books)

Guy is about to finish writing his breakthrough online article. He overheard the story by chance in a pub and it’s guaranteed to go viral - all he needs to do is persuade the World’s Unluckiest Man to talk to him. His best friend Larry’s quest for killer clickbait material has led him to a recently appeared shanty town in Glasgow, where he finds some kind of urban voodoo cult. Ex-cop Sam has already come face-to-face with the terrifying force behind both these phenomena, but he’s been trying to put it out of his mind.

I don’t often write book reviews…
Revisado: 12-08-21
However, this book is one of the best modern horror stories that I’ve read. It’s got a unique premise that feels like it ties into the eternal struggle between good and evil. It has a lot of nuances concerning social media and it feels like the main protagonist is a very real, very flawed person. A person with real internal struggles and one that is torn between some choices that could have devastating results or could cause some positive changes. I’m being intentionally a bit vague as I don’t want to give away too much of the story but it was well worth it. I wish the ending was a little different (not going into spoilers) but it’s still outstanding overall.
Smitherd is a smart writer and he has an uncanny ability to give me the impression that the book is going somewhere absurd but he ties it all together very well and when I look back, I’m impressed at how things coalesced.
Short review: A great book with a modern twist on some good, old fashioned horror

Pretty Good but Not as Good as the First One
Revisado: 11-14-18
The first novel was excellent and while this one was good, it was not quite up to par (compared to the first installment). Falconer is a great author and he does an exceptional job developing the characters (especially with the protagonist). This was good but it felt like it had a bit of filler compared to the first.

This is a nice second novel;
Revisado: 08-06-18
There is still a TON of potential for this series but the quality of the story was much slower moving in the second novel. The first was much more open whereas this is of a much more narrow focus. I am enjoying this series but I wish the action would quicken a bit.

Great!! Could’ve been Epic!!
Revisado: 07-16-18
This book is GREAT!!** The book would’ve been astoundingly awesome had it cut out the romance (err if you want to call it that). There were too many scenes that reminded me of what I heard of grocery store romance novels but the gist and base story is outstanding and thus the reason for my rating.
This writer has talent, I just think he needs to stay focused on the main story more

Historia
When an elite team of specialists receives a long-awaited first contact from an alien race, it’s nothing like what they’d imagined. The "gifts," from a long-dead but seemingly benevolent alien race, have been sent to help humanity defend itself against an imminent threat. It’s clear that the gifts are intended to help, but at what price? Caught in the middle is Sam Steele, a high-level programmer and veteran with a tragic past, up against the arrogant, intransigent Colonel Eric Web, who considers Steele a loose cannon and is most concerned with giving the United States an edge in the upcoming battle.

Was awesome...until
Revisado: 07-06-18
This was a GREAT book until nearly the end. I feel like this would’ve been a perfect trilogy or something but the ending had a feel of just getting the book over with...if that makes any sense. The writer has great talent and the narrator was excellent but it felt like lazy writing at the end (compared to how awesome the first 3/4 of the book was).
I’ll keep an eye out for this author as I think there is a lot of promise.

So Much Potential!!
Revisado: 06-14-18
This book was GREAT at first...then it seemed to try to meld some romance and not so subtly bring environmental issues to the forefront when the book would’ve been so much better without either. The story was an awesome premise and it was one of the ONLY books to actually give me a little bit of a chill down my spine (I love horror and books don’t usually scare or creep me out) but this one sparkled in some spots and fell flat in others.
Disclaimer: I’m not a fan of romance and I usually try to avoid the genre. The romance in the story was more of a side story but I feel like it detracted from the plot and created diversions when more attention to the mysterious thriller portion would’ve brought this over the top.
I did like this book but felt with a few changes, I could’ve absolutely loved it. To me, it is clear the writer is talented and I’ll look for more books in the future from her.
