Historia
In June, 1954, eighteen-year-old Emmett Watson is driven home to Nebraska by the warden of the juvenile work farm where he has just served fifteen months for involuntary manslaughter. His mother long gone, his father recently deceased, and the family farm foreclosed upon by the bank, Emmett's intention is to pick up his eight-year-old brother, Billy, and head to California where they can start their lives anew. But when the warden drives away, Emmett discovers that two friends from the work farm have hidden themselves in the trunk of the warden's car.

The ending killed the story
Revisado: 11-17-21
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, I liked the characters, I gasped and laughed and pondered as I listened to the great adventure, but THEN, it all ended in a way that felt rushed, un satisfactorily, unnecessarily sad and despairing, with a couple major loose ends. Because of the last chapter, I'm not sure I can say I love or hate this book, or if I can really recommend it to friends. It kept me so hopeful and interested all the way through, and then ended with not so much of a twist as a complete overturn of expectations that left me disappointed in the happy ending allowed to two of the characters.

Dull Narration
Revisado: 11-13-18
I have read this book multiple times, and love it. it is relevant and clever and one of my favorite Twain novels. however, thus narration was quite bland and dull. It did a very poor job of bringing the characters, wit, and poignant insights to life. I found it so hard to keep listening that I turned it off and picked up my hard copy to read again myself.
