Historia
Here is Peter Caddick-Adams's third volume in his trilogy about the final year of the Western front in World War Two. Fire & Steel covers the war's final 100 days—beginning in late January 1945 and continuing until May 8, 1945, when the German high command surrendered unconditionally to all Allied forces. Caddick-Adams's previous two volumes in the acclaimed series—Sand & Steel, which covers the invasion of Normandy in June 1944, and Snow & Steel, the definitive study of the Battle of the Bulge—have set the stage for this concluding volume.

really good
Revisado: 03-21-25
I enjoyed this book. Adams does an incredibly great job describing the last 4 months of the War. He describes each American, French, Polish and British division's experience fighting in Germany and bringing down hitlers war machine. Adam's gives good descriptions of each commanders decisions on each side and he also gives an incredible view of the aftermath.

Heroicly Amazing
Revisado: 03-02-25
Billy Waugh is an American icon yet his name barely if not at all is ever mentioned in military and American history. He deserves to be known for that his story here is that of why democracy in America is sustained to the present. He is an incredible human being whom fought in Korea in the 92nd Airborne, Vietnam as a Green Beret in SOG, and undertook several missions as a CIA Agent in areas like Sudan and Afghanistan and to mention, at age 72, he served as a CIA Contractor in combat in Afghanistan. Theodore Roosevelt and Billy Waugh go hand in hand. Its incredible. This is a wowing tail of a True American Patriot!

Phenomenal!
Revisado: 02-25-25
Annie Jacobsen wrote and read an incredible story of American Valor, guts, dedication, and devotion. I was sweating listening to the stories of men like Billy Waugh, Gary Schroen, Shark, and Felix Rodriguez. Annie's attention to detail of CIA Operations in Vietnam, Sudan, Afghanistan, Iraq and many other operations throughout the world is incredible.
The individual courage these brave souls portray in such dangerous circumstances makes you really appreciate the individual CIA Agent. It's easy for us all to think the CIA is an organization of lies and cold blood but when you read about Gary Schroen (who at age 60) and his Team's deployment to Afghanistan just 15 days after 9/11, you really say to yourself, "These men are incredible and God Bless them!" Thats why I say, Read This Book! It makes you appreciate the CIA and it leaves your mouth wide open as you hear the extremely dangerous work they had to undertake.

Historia
Over the course of his 27 years with the DEA, Ed Follis bought eight-balls of cocaine in a red Corvette, negotiated multimillion-dollar deals onboard private King Airs, and developed covert relationships with men who were not only international drug traffickers but - in some cases - operatives for al-Qaeda, Hezbollah, Hamas, the Shan United Army, or the Mexican federation of cartels. Follis was, in fact, one of the driving forces behind the agency's radical shift from a limited local focus to a global arena.

Revisado: 02-20-25
Ray Porter reads this perfectly as if he is Ed Follis. He's so convincing that listening to YouTube interviews of Follis are disappointing almost.
However, Follis' account of his Mastery of the Dark Art of being Undercover was incredibly amazing and intense. He truly is one of the last of the Dark Artists in my opinion. His courage and dedication to take down drug kings was astounding. It is men like Edward Follis along with any fallen agent and many countless others who are willing "To DieToday" for our nation's well being whom we all stand for during the National Anthem. God bless you Mr. Follis! Thank you for telling us your story. Read this Book!

Historia
While America held its breath in the days immediately following 9/11, a small but determined group of CIA agents covertly began to change history. This is the riveting first-person account of the treacherous top-secret mission inside Afghanistan to set the stage for the defeat of the Taliban and launch the war on terror. As thrilling as any novel, First In is a uniquely intimate look at a mission that began the US retaliation against terrorism - and reclaimed the country of Afghanistan for its people.

A Courageous tale
Revisado: 02-19-25
what an amazing story of courage and hope... Gary Schroen tells his story of going over to Afghanistan with his team of CIA operatives and linking up with the Northern Alliance forces to defeat the Taliban. Schroen gives details to how the CIA gained intelligence on the Taliban throughout the years leading up to 9/11 in order to defeat them in 2001. It is an amazing boots on the ground account of the relations with Northern Alliance forces and Pashtuns (anti taliban forces) and it gives you a great account of the first hand combat Schroen and his team experienced. Schroen was near to retiring and then 9/11 happened and as a great American he put that on hold. Read this man's story. its a courageous and patriotic tale and its a good insight into how the War on Terror was handled in the very early stages.

Historia
On December 16, 1944, the vanguard of three German armies, totaling half a million men, attacked US forces in the Ardennes region of Belgium and Luxembourg, achieving what had been considered impossible - total surprise. In the most abysmal failure of battlefield intelligence in the history of the US Army, 600,000 American soldiers found themselves facing Hitler's last desperate effort of the war. The brutal confrontation that ensued became known as the Battle of the Bulge, the greatest battle ever fought by the US Army - a triumph of American ingenuity and dedication.

Historia
Loss and Redemption at St Vith closes a gap in the record of the Battle of the Bulge by recounting the exploits of the 7th Armored Division in a way that no other study has. Most accounts of the Battle of the Bulge give short-shrift to the interval during which the German forward progress stopped and the American counterattack began. This narrative centers on the 7th Armored Division for the entire length of the campaign, in so doing reconsidering the story of the whole battle through the lens of a single division and accounting for the reconstitution of the Division while in combat.

Phenomenal!!!
Revisado: 02-04-25
Mr. Fontenot is an Maerican Hero himself and his book is one or my favorites on the Battle of The Bulge right alongside "A Time For Trumpets."
Fontenot pays close attention to detail from Commanders orders and discussions to the troops in each division, regiment, and companies as well as the German command and troops.
My Favorite part about this book was his attention to detail in every Division battle in St. Vith. I learned a lot about the 7th armored units, the 9th Armored units and 10th Armored Units along with good details on the Cavalry Squadrons that helped fight for St. Vith. A matter of fact, this book gave me more details on the Cavalry, Tank Battalions, and Armored Infantry Battalions actions that "Sabers Through The Reich" did!! and Sabers was a nod to the cavalry by a Cavalry commander..
Fontenot doesn't screw around! He gives you the real story and you can almost feel what it was like to be alongside the men of the 14th Cavalry Squadron, or the 7th Armored Division or the with Valkgrenadier Division. His writing is Phenomenal!!! READ/LISTEN TO THIS BOOK!!!

William Tecumseh Sherman and Geronimo were keen strategists and bold soldiers, ruthless with their enemies. Over the course of the 1870s and 1880s these two war chiefs would confront each other in the final battle for what the American West would be: a sparsely settled, wild home where Indian tribes could thrive, or a densely populated extension of the America to the east of the Mississippi.

not a bad read at all on the Indian wars and Geronimo and the Apache along with Sherman, Crook, Custer, Grant, Terry, and all of the beautiful areas of the west. H.W. Brands brings you right back into history with this very descriptive read. I gave it 4 stars only because I think the detail was over extensive at times however it still was a great book.
