Glad to have dipped my toes into this world
Revisado: 03-04-24
Beloved, said the Glorious One, unless thy desire had been for me thou wouldst not have sought so long and so truly. For all find what they truly seek...And since then, O Kings and Ladies, I have been wandering to find him and my happiness is so great that it even weakens me like a wound. And this is the marvel of marvels, that he called me Beloved, me who am but as a dog.
This was a most excellent quote from the Last Battle.
What an amazing series.

Historia
You live in a dystopia. Every part of historical human existence in our world has been turned on its head. The world we live in is an inversion of what God created you to live in. All that is good is treated as though it were repugnant. All that is beautiful is treated as though it were repulsive. And the truth is forbidden while the most outrageous lies are exalted. This world did not become like this by accident or by inexorable forces of history. This world was engineered to be this way. It was designed to take the life your ancestors had and tear it apart.

My second time through the trilogy
Revisado: 12-26-23
After having read through Lewis’s Ransom trilogy two years ago I quickly realized he was doing more inside this work than I was immediately able to glean. I quickly set out, purchasing and reading a number of commentaries: Planets in Peril, Planet Narnia, Deep Heaven, and Lewis’s Discarded Image. As I worked through each commentary I became more and more convinced that I would have to read many many more books before I was able to fully benefit from this series. And, now having read Homer, Virgil, Ovid, and Dante the world of Lewis was not the only thing that opened up to me; like luminous flowers the varied works of Aristotle, Shakespeare, Beowulf, Chesterton and and even the scriptures themselves blossomed before my eyes.
As in every worth while endeavor, you will not have a mastery of your subject the first time through. It will be necessary to push further up and further in to find a deeper joy and a more profound satisfaction. And if you do commit to the hard work required you won’t have gained Lewis alone in the effort, but deep heaven itself and all the rich luminaries that people the night skies.

Historia
The Discarded Image paints a lucid picture of the medieval worldview, providing the historical and cultural background to the literature of the middle ages and renaissance. It describes the 'image' discarded by later years as "the medieval synthesis itself, the whole organization of their theology, science, and history into a single, complex, harmonious mental model of the universe". This, Lewis' last book, has been hailed as "the final memorial to the work of a great scholar and teacher and a wise and noble mind".

Venus and Mars are alright tonight!
Revisado: 05-05-23
This book is an excellent companion piece to Lewis’ Ransom trilogy much like the Abolition of Man is an excellent supplement to That Hideous Strength. Without any understanding of the medieval cosmological model, it is very difficult to understand what Lewis was trying to accomplish through his Space books. I would have to say, and let me add that I’m grateful that this book got in under the wire prior to Lewis’ death, that this work alone ties an invisible thread that runs through every book of Lewis’ catalog. Also see Aristotle’s On the Heavens.

Historia
This is an extensive collection of short essays and other pieces by C. S. Lewis that have been brought together in one volume for the first time. As well as his many books, letters, and poems, Lewis also wrote a great number of essays and shorter pieces on various subjects. He wrote extensively on Christian theology and the defense of faith but also on various ethical issues and on the nature of literature and storytelling. In this essay collection we find a treasure trove of Lewis' reflections on diverse topics.

40 hours in the mind of Lewis
Revisado: 11-18-22
I would like to encourage anyone on the fence as to whether they should read this book to advance to the edge and take the plunge.
In it Lewis discusses a vast number of topics with lucidity, brevity, cogency, and sometimes genius; very lean, almost no fluff.
Reading these essays opened up many of Lewis’s more popular works and brought deeper meaning to them. I believe chapter 120 is on the inner ring. It should be read as a supplement to Mark Studdock’s (character from that hideous strength) decent into the hellish NICE. Many, many more examples can be given but this one was a stunningly obvious example.
Merry reading with my full and free endorsement.

Historia
The English-speaking peoples comprise perhaps the greatest number of human beings sharing a common language in the world today. These people also share a common heritage. For his four-volume work, Sir Winston Churchill took as his subject these great elements in world history. Volume 1 commences in 55BC, when Julius Caesar famously "turned his gaze upon Britain" and concludes with the Battle of Bosworth in 1485.

King Alfred the Great...
Revisado: 01-02-19
Churchill's treatment of King Alfred the Great is simply worthy of the price of admission alone. The only Christian King to ever sit on the English Throne. While Volume II takes silly jabs at Calvin, Luther, and the Puritans -as has always been in vouge- Volume I gives credit where credit is due, atleast in reference to a truely great man who made his enemies -the Danes- not only his friends, but made them sons; who invited them to his own table, and made them to share in his inheritance. Check it out. Defenitely worth your time.

Historia
Considered by many to be Chesterton's greatest masterpiece, this audiobook declares his comprehensive view of world history as informed by the Incarnation. Retelling mankind's story from the very beginning, he shows how all human desires are fulfilled in the person of Christ and Christ's church. With his characteristic brilliance and irony, he argues that Christianity is not just a religion to stand beside other religions, for the fact of the Incarnation sets it apart.

conclusions on calvinism
Revisado: 01-02-19
How Chesterton sidles up comfortably with a hedonistic paganism in opposition to his experience of Calvinism as a sour vinegar wine shows his astonishing lack of knowledge -and care for- scripture, and his blind faith in the institution of the Roman catholic church. That being said... his common sense in regard to the leading thought of his day is unparalleled, and shows a remarkable contradiction in the fabulously fat man who stood on a foundation unable to carry the weight of such a great intellect. If his thought had stood on scripture alone he just might have righted the world.
