Historia
In January 2019, culture writer Anne Helen Petersen set the internet on fire with her viral BuzzFeed essay diagnosing “millennial burnout” - a chronic state of stress and exhaustion that’s become a “base temperature” for young people today. Now, she continues this generation-defining conversation in a brand-new format, interviewing millennials around the country about their own deeply personal experiences with burnout, and the culture that creates it.

It was fine. Definitely had several points that I agreed with and have seen people go through. The short version is take time for yourself, exercise outside if you can and go to therapy.

Historia
Riley Kennedy’s emails keep getting crossed with her male colleague, Kennedy Riley. The infuriating man forwards them along with his annoying commentary and unsolicited advice. At least she never has to see him in person, since they work in different locations…until they come face to face at the office holiday party.

Cute hallmark movie.
Revisado: 01-19-23
This was a cute story. Was Kennedy a jerk at the beginning? Sure. Was he one hundred percent full of himself? Yup. Was this story cute in a cheesy way anyway? Sure was. This audio freebie (thanks Audible!) was just the right length. Just enough went on where it didn’t seem rushed like so many short stories do. I even giggled at a few parts.

They all feed the darkrot that is gradually consuming her heartsglass.

Engaging conclusion to an intriguing trilogy.
Revisado: 01-04-23
We kind of already know the ending to the story. This story gives us the meat and potatoes. We understand how everything played out. We understand why. I think the trilogy might have been better off read instead of listened to, with all the back and forth, but the narrators did a great job.

Intriguing story told in two perspectives.
Revisado: 12-13-22
This is book two in the Bone Witch trilogy. Once you get over the dual perspectives, the book is much easier to understand. We get present tense story from the bard, the teller of the tale. Past tense story is told in Tia’s voice but it is told as if it were the present. The narrators do a wonderful job. It just takes a second to figure out which part of the story is being told. Each book gives us more and more of the whole story, there are just gaps in between.

Cyber military story with a mostly HEA.
Revisado: 09-30-22
Story wise, Damaged, Incorporated had an interesting premise. Of course the wounded veteran to super soldier trope has been done before, but it was an entertaining story nonetheless.
I gave the narrator four stars even though his performance was so-so. There were a lot of different characters and he tried doing the various accents. It didn’t work, but this was a more difficult title because of all the different nationalities. At the beginning of the story he was very slow in his readings but got better towards the end.

Historia
Professional book blogger Romy Cartelli may have cried werewolf once or twice. Hell, she’s even cried vampire, warlock, and dragon their fair share of times because, as every dedicated reader knows, one book boyfriend is never enough. And her followers love it...until they don’t. Sure, Romy is being stalked by a sexy werewolf, but she’s got bigger issues to deal with. Like the fact that he might be a murderer. Or worse yet, that she got drunk and told all of her followers that werewolves actually exist.

Cupkini.
Revisado: 06-05-20
I don’t know if I want to scream or not. And I’m certainly not certain if I loved the book or not. On one hand, I liked the story and the interaction between the girls was hilarious. They were a riot. Kash, at the beginning was great too. I loved the banter and the snark he had. There are quite a few lines that had me laughing out loud and I’m listening at a library. 😝 Let’s not forget the part where the book reviewer main character was reading another one of the author’s previous books. Ha! The adulty parts were perfect too.
On the other hand, speaking of endings, Ugh! Huge cliffhanger. The mother in me cringed every time the girls went to the bar, the frat house, or even the living room. They were drunk more than they were sober and the guys were too touchy. Do I even have to mention the cupkini? I found myself quoting Kash, “It’s too dangerous.” Then I thought back to when I was in college and the descriptions were pretty spot on. I might have mentally blocked them out. Inward cringe.
Regardless, the story was fun and quick paced. I think my favorite part was the deployment of the Home Alone defense.
I definitely want to thank Heather and Bam for the opportunity to listen to the audiobook Arc in exchange for my honest review.

Historia
Zachary Quinto - best known for his role as the Nimoy-approved Spock in the recent Star Trek reboot and the menacing, power-stealing serial killer, Sylar, in Heroes - brings his well-earned sci-fi credentials and simmering intensity to this audio-exclusive novella from master storyteller John Scalzi. One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone - 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don't know.

I had never read or listened to anything from John Scalzi before and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I truly enjoyed this short story. It had an interesting, unique plot and had plenty of twists and turns all the way through. I can’t recommend this story enough.

Boys have cooties.
Revisado: 02-23-20
Sometimes, I just want Rielle to stab Brennan. In the butt. With an ice spike. I don’t care that magic doesn’t work on him, he just needs something stronger than a kick. This whole book was Rielle in danger and Brennan trying to “domesticate” her. I understand where he’s coming from, he’s found someone amazing, and he’s terrified that he’ll lose her. Putting her in a pretty little cage is not the way to accomplish that though.
My only complaint is that I would have liked to have seen more building about the mage trials than all the back and forth with Rielle and Brennan. I know love makes you do stupid things but their relationship is toxic. Brennan is trying, but he is fundamentally broken. He is insecure and jealous and after the way he has treated her, he should be. He is on the road to redemption, but it’s a long road. And uphill. With a bag of bricks on his back.
I loved the way that it ended. There is some hope left. The addition of the new characters in this book were great and I love the immortal creatures. Leigh meeting with the covens lent a powerful reminder that the world keeps turning even though our main characters are tied up in politics.
This was definitely a book where I kept wanting to read it but didn’t want it to end. At random points in real life, I would just think of certain words from the story and be instantly transported back. Can’t wait to start on the next installment of my new favorite series.

Great ending to a great series
Revisado: 11-02-19
Man! You think your ex is vengeful? They have nothing on this book. The lengths that Ea and Hina go through to be rid of each other. Wow. Godlike proportions. ....Oh wait. Lol. Through all the ups and downs, this final book in the Heartlines series brought action, magic, suspense and heartache. Slightly predictable but still very entertaining. This book left me with a feeling of completeness. I think it was a fitting way to end the series. Thank you, Heather Hildenbrand for the ability to review this arc in exchange for my honest review.

Revisado: 09-10-19
Book five in the Heart Lines series is really ramping up the action. We meet some new characters, some old characters get new abilities and the whole book is leading up to the big showdown between Hinna and Ea. There was plenty going on. Sam even found time to go to college. Occasionally. Stay in school kids. Even if you’re sharing your body with a goddess.
Harold returns. Yea! Simon Brooks III gets a kick in the pants. Double yea! All in all, an exciting read. Thank you Heather, for a chance to listen to this audiobook arc in exchange for an honest review. I can’t wait for the next one.
