Odd story - SPOILER ALERT
Revisado: 05-16-22
Just an overall strange story I couldn’t stick with. Lesbian encounter with a stranger found under the porch, then the stranger decides she wants the brother instead. Story line holds about as much water as a colander. Narrator is the only good thing this book has going for it.

I chose this book quickly the other day, needing some thing to listen to at work. I very quickly was pulled into the Natchez trace. Everything about the time, place, and people was brought to life by this author’s descriptions and I felt like I was actually there. I am looking forward to our next book! I am an instant fan!

Mirabelle, the "shopgirl" behind the glove counter at Neiman Marcus, is slightly lost, off-kilter, and shy. But there's something about Mirabelle. Steve Martin reads this charming novella. Hear an interview with the author and browse more Martin.

Some people shouldn't narrate - even if they are amazing actors / comedians. It doesn't translate well into narration here. I was bored to death and couldn't even get past the first 30 minutes. Sorry, Mr. Martin! I love your acting, but not your voiceover! Maybe I'll try this one in print form.

One of my favorites so far!
Revisado: 08-03-18
Absolutely in love with this story! I love books that weave a yarn from roots of truth. Learning about the lives of the children and families affected by the evil of Miss Georgia Tann and Tennessee Children's Home Society was heartbreaking! Lisa Wingate is a gifted storyteller and with this one she grabs your full attention from beginning to end! From childhood to the sunset years of a set of sisters, this story will pull you in and you will have trouble pressing the pause button!
Worth every second of the 14-plus hours of listening!

Meet Eleanor Oliphant: She struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she's thinking. Nothing is missing in her carefully timetabled life of avoiding social interactions, where weekends are punctuated by frozen pizza, vodka, and phone chats with Mummy. But everything changes when Eleanor meets Raymond, the bumbling and deeply unhygienic IT guy from her office.

Had me laughing AND crying!
Revisado: 08-03-18
**Standing on chair, clapping so hard it hurts my hands!**
I had no idea what this story was about - I went on the recommendation of a friend who had read it. WOW. I wasn't expecting this story at all! I don't give spoilers in my reviews, so I'm not going into specific details. Just know that Eleanor is a character that is introduced as seeming awkward and very different, yet she is anything but! It's easy to relate to her - truth be told, I think we all feel as if we are a square peg in a round hole. You can't help but fall in love with her idiosyncrocies as the story unfolds, and cheer for her at the top of your lungs.
I literally laughed out loud many times during this amazing performance by Cathleen McCarron. She is great at setting the mood with her method of delivery. I hadn't listened to her narrating before now, but am adding her to my favorites list. (To give you a chuckle, I'll admit to not realizing my listening speed was set to 0.75 speed for the first few chapters and it was even good then...but once I clicked it back to regular speed I was head over heals!)
A+ for story line, A+ for performance - This one is a MUST for your listening list, because Eleanor Oliphant IS completely fine!

Love the voice!
Revisado: 08-03-18
Narrator gets an A from me on this one! Tom Taverna gives tons of depth to the characters right out of the gate. I loved the different personalities given to the characters - it was easy to tell who was who when listening to the story. The author does a good job of tossing in my favorite type of sarcastic humor here and there. I personally avoid books with sexual content, so when it popped up in here I skipped over it. This specific content is the only reason I didn't give it five stars all around - but if you are good with this sort of content, the story line is fabulous!
