Historia
Fresh off his latest case, Attorney Nate Shepherd takes in some local high school football, hoping that a Friday night under the lights will give him a chance to relax with his family. It does - until the quarterback’s brother is arrested in the middle of the game. Nate jumps in to represent the brother, who stands accused of a crime far worse than anyone imagined. As the internet rains fury down on his new client and a merciless prosecutor maneuvers to put the young man away, Nate scrambles to find out what happened and why. But no one, anywhere, seems to be telling him the truth.

Modern Perry mason
Revisado: 03-20-24
These are not thriller books. But they are, to me, compelling through the characters and the base “realness” of these stories. They don’t always give all the answers, just their own part of a larger story. And I find them to be a delight. The narrator is great too and I will be looking for more that he has narrated.

Historia
The Skull Throne of Krasia stands empty. Built from the skulls of fallen generals and demon princes, it is a seat of honor and ancient, powerful magic, keeping the demon corelings at bay. From atop the throne, Ahmann Jardir was meant to conquer the known world, forging its isolated peoples into a unified army to rise up and end the demon war once and for all. But Arlen Bales, the Warded Man, stood against this course, challenging Jardir to a duel he could not in honor refuse.

What the heck happened to this series?
Revisado: 07-28-15
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
obsessed fans who can overlook the absolute tedium the story bogged down into
What was most disappointing about Peter V. Brett’s story?
it may have had a hell of an ending, by after 15+ hours of Leesha's pregnancy and Everam politics I just couldnt be bothered any more
Which scene was your favorite?
the capture of the demon - I sure hope he bothered to do something with it in the 4 hours I didnt bother to listen to
What character would you cut from The Skull Throne?
everyone who doesnt fight a demon
Any additional comments?
I am so disappointed

For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison.

Started a little slow but then wouldn't let go
Revisado: 03-03-15
Took me a couple tries to get through the first hour - not because it's bad, just needed a good solid couple hours of driving to listen and get stuck in.
The story is fantastic and the narrator is brilliant.
Only issue is I spent the last couple hours yelling at the main characters for not seeing what (I thought) was obvious, but it didn't ruin it l.

After being murdered by a mystery assailant, navigating his way through the realm between life and death, and being brought back to the mortal world, Harry realizes that maybe death wasn’t all that bad - because he is no longer Harry Dresden, Chicago’s only professional wizard. He is now Harry Dresden, Winter Knight to Mab, the Queen of Air and Darkness. After Harry had no choice but to swear his fealty, Mab wasn’t about to let something as petty as death steal away the prize she had sought for so long.

The downside to faking your own death is that people tend to get upset when they find out they’ve been had. In Atticus O’Sullivan’s case, they’re upset enough to come after him to make sure he dies for real this time. Yet he can’t remain in hiding anymore: He has to bind his apprentice, Granuaile, to the earth so that she can become the first new Druid in centuries.

A little disappointed, but will get the next one
Revisado: 02-01-13
After the awesomeness of the first three I felt a little let down.
Quite frankly, a week after finishing it, I don't remember the ending. I didn't have the second part downloaded when the first part ended, so I started listening to the new Harry Dresden I had downloaded too, until I could get to wifi. Instead I listened to ALL of Cold Days before coming back to the second half of this book.
Maybe it was my own expectations being too high. I didn't have to wait to read the first three, but had to wait for this one, and I really wanted to read the story that gave us a new Druid.
Maybe it was the narrator's Oberon voice. I HATED how he voiced Oberon. It drove me up the wall. He made the dog sound like he had brain damage and a tongue transplant. Apart from that, he was fine tho.
Maybe it was because I felt he took an oft-repeated one-line joke from the first three books and basically made a major plot point out of it - although I had actually been WAITING for that joke to catch up to him (no, I won't tell you the joke, go listen)
Don't get me wrong, the book isn't bad at all. The action moves along at a decent clip, I definitely enjoyed the vampires, both old and new.
Just...
I was hoping for better after the first three.

Not bad...but there's better to listen to first
Revisado: 02-01-13
Mildly enjoyable. Not overly gripping, nor does it really provide much mystery.
It's not bad, and I don't consider it a waste of a credit - but I wouldnt buy another one in the series unless It was the last day before renewal.
to be honest, I mainly bought it for the narrator - Christian Rodska also narrates the Marcus didius Falco books, ,and his voice is fantastic.
Speaking of which - listen to those books first - or any Joseph Finder, or any of the medicus books by Ruth Downie, narrated by Simon Vance.
Or any of the Ian Rankin books. His hard bitten Scottish policeman is much much better than the one in this book
All of which are much more enjoyable in my opinion - BUT if, like I had, you have exhausted your favorite writers, then by all means give this a go to tide yourself over.

On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

Great story, lovely twists, fantastic writing
Revisado: 02-01-13
I hesitated to download in case I was accidentally buying a romance. I can assure you this is far from a romance! I am Not going to tell you anything about the plot, except to say that I was wrong..and then wrong again..and then wrong again, as to where the book was going next.
Some other reviewers said they thought the first half was slow. I disagree. I enjoyed the pace of the build, and thought the writing was superb.
The two narrators do a quality job breathing the right emotions into the words at the right times.
I definitely recommend this book
I found myself constantly telling other people about this book as I listened to it, which is always a good sign.
The characters also are well fleshed out, and by the end of the book you will find that there are no "wasted" scenes - everything is relevant and everything is important.
Enjoy!

Historia
Captain John "Black Jack" Geary's legendary exploits are known to every schoolchild. Revered for his heroic "last stand" in the early days of the war, he was presumed dead. But a century later, Geary miraculously returns from survival hibernation and reluctantly takes command of the Alliance fleet as it faces annihilation by the Syndics.
Appalled by the hero-worship around him, Geary is nevertheless a man who will do his duty. And he knows that bringing the stolen Syndic hypernet key safely home is the Alliance's one chance to win the war. But to do that, Geary will have to live up to the impossibly heroic "Black Jack" legend.

riveted from start to finish
Revisado: 06-09-08
Maybe I am just less discerning than the other reviewers, however I did not find the characters to be flat, nor the scenes boring. Nor was I bothered that the "camera" floated over the main characters shoulder the entire time.
This is not, by the way, hard science fiction. Number of the Beast (minus Heinlen's late life obsession with tits) is hard sci-fi. Reynolds or Banks or early Clarke is hard sci-fi.
This is entertainment. This is Space Opera. This is a great story playing on many old storytelling concepts. Not original and hardly genre-busting but I don't care!
It is Fun, it is Engaging, it is a good space-faring romp!
It is great for listening to while you do something with your hands that doesn't require great attention, or go for a walk, or cook, or do chores.
Five stars from me, off to download the next one

not bad but not her best
Revisado: 04-08-08
in fact, its probably the least best (can't bring myself to say worst) of her books that I have listened o. The Vorkosigan books are amazing ( go get Wariors apprentice) or her Chalcedon books (Curse of Chalion, Paladin of Souls) are wonderful. this book...almost great but I got bored and quit 30 minutes from the end, in the middle of what was meant to be the great finale. Feel free to tell me that it was worth another half hour of listening. Don't get me wrong, I did like it, but I'd just had enough - I looked up the ending, summarized in two lines, and went off happy to my next book
