Historia
When the enslaved Jim overhears that he is about to be sold to a man in New Orleans, separated from his wife and daughter forever, he decides to hide on nearby Jackson Island until he can formulate a plan. Meanwhile, Huck Finn has faked his own death to escape his violent father, recently returned to town. As all readers of American literature know, thus begins the dangerous and transcendent journey by raft down the Mississippi River toward the elusive and too-often-unreliable promise of the Free States and beyond.

Destined to be a Classic

Truly one of the most amazing books I have ever read.
I re-familiarized myself with Adventures of Huckleberry Finn to prepare and then followed up with James.

Historia
In the tradition of John Richardson's Picasso, a commanding new biography of the Italian master's tumultuous life and mysterious death. For four hundred years Caravaggio's (1571-1610) staggering artistic achievements have thrilled viewers, yet his volatile personal trajectory - the murder of Ranuccio Tomasini, the doubt surrounding Caravaggio's sexuality, the chain of events that began with his imprisonment on Malta and ended with his premature death - has long confounded historians.

Historia
Based on hundreds of interviews with friends, family, and lovers over a thirty-year period—as well as previously unreleased material from the JFK Library—Kennedy historian J. Randy Taraborrelli paints an unforgettable new portrait of a woman whose flaws and contradictions only serve to make her even more iconic. “I have three lives,” Jackie told a former lover, “public, private and secret.” In this revealing biography, listeners will become intimately familiar with all three.

Definition of Privileged
Revisado: 10-05-23
I was looking forward to learning more about my life’s first President and First Lady. The book was the choice of one of the book clubs I am a member of.
I put the book down disappointed for lack of a better word.
I am unimpressed by her choices, “accomplishments”, and life once she met JFK.
I fail to see anything she accomplished on her own.
There are far better role models in the world.

Historia
Between his work on the 2014 Audible Audiobook of the Year, Hamlet, Prince of Denmark: A Novel, and his performance of Classic Love Poems, narrator Richard Armitage ( The Hobbit, Hannibal) has quickly become a listener favorite. Now, in this defining performance of Charles Dickens' classic David Copperfield, Armitage lends his unique voice and interpretation, truly inhabiting each character and bringing real energy to the life of one of Dickens' most famous characters.

David & Demon
Revisado: 07-11-23
I revisited David Copperfield after reading Demon Copperhead. I had no idea of the connection until after reading Kingsolver’s “adaptation”. Loved them both and really enjoyed making the character connections.
Reading literature of this caliber, makes it difficult to find something current that holds up.
Beautiful writing, Beyond narration, Bravo!

Historia
Trinidad in the 1940s, nearing the end of American occupation and British colonialism. On a hill overlooking Bell Village sits the Changoor farm, where Dalton and Marlee Changoor live in luxury unrecognizable to those who reside in the farm’s shadow. Down below is the Barrack, a ramshackle building of wood and tin, divided into rooms occupied by whole families. Among these families are the Saroops—Hans, Shweta, and their son, Krishna, all three born of the barracks.

Historia
Shots rang out in Savannah's grandest mansion in the misty, early morning hours of May 2, 1981. Was it murder or self-defense? For nearly a decade, the shooting and its aftermath reverberated throughout this hauntingly beautiful city of moss-hung oaks and shaded squares. John Berendt's sharply observed, suspenseful, and witty narrative flows like a thoroughly engrossing novel, and yet it is a work of nonfiction.

I just finished the audible, and I’m at a loss for words.
I enjoyed so very much.
As I began the book, I decided to watch the movie. Does not even compare…At All!
This is a classic along side many other Southern Classics.
The book is perfection and the narration superb.
Thank you very kindly (read with a South’un accent), John and Jeff.

I Had High Hopes
Revisado: 03-07-23
When I began this novel, I had high hopes.
Within the first few chapters, I already was planning to finally have a contemporary book to share with others. Fortunately, I waited.
The story continued to get messier and more far fetched as it went on.
It was like a middle school class, all threw in their ideas and instead of culling…they decided to weave it all in to 1 book.
I am surprised that readers stuck with it. I actually gave up. With just a couple of short chapters remaining, I laughed and said, “Uncle”.

Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Historia
April Clarke-Cliveden was the first person Hannah Jones met at Oxford. Vivacious, bright, occasionally vicious, and the ultimate It girl, she quickly pulled Hannah into her dazzling orbit. Together, they developed a group of devoted and inseparable friends—Will, Hugh, Ryan, and Emily—during their first term. By the end of the year, April was dead.

I Can’t Take IT
Revisado: 11-30-22
After years of listening to Audible, this is my very first review.
The It Girl delivers like a VERY long winded campfire story.
As I listened, I felt a mix of dismay and irritation (if you listen to the book, you’ll understand my sarcasm in using a descriptor like this. The story is FULL of them. Each cringe and eye roll worthy.
Early on made my declaration of who the killer was and, yes…I was correct.
The story would have been more palatable if about 1/2 were cut out. There is no reason for so much of it, redundancy at its…finest?
I forced myself to make it almost all the way through, but with only a couple of chapters left, I gave up.
This is my last book by Ware.
