Excellent Performance
Revisado: 06-01-24
I am consistently impressed with the narrator's performance. Even more so given how new they seem to be to voice acting.

Historia
This is the story of Dan—a high school dropout who plays guitar in a heavy metal band and has a minimum wage job wearing a mouse costume. He's not exactly destined for great things. Then Dan wakes up in another world—a world where science never progressed past the Middle Ages, and the laws of physics have been replaced by role-playing game rules. Dan makes some mistakes—some big mistakes. Dan becomes a Death Knight: a walking personification of death and darkness. Now, Dan must fight monsters, zealots, and demons just to survive, and he must do it all alone.

Dark, but funny
Revisado: 11-29-23
This was a rather refreshing change from the usual fantasy book. If you don't mind a semi-dark fantasy setting I think you'll following the misadventures of Dan.

Historia
Alec began his 18th birthday with the temple monks. By day's end, he discovers he possesses magical abilities. Except his magic is unique. He doesn't require grimoires and incantations to cast spells. Alec's magic is entirely natural. He can, somehow, absorb the elements from objects and manipulate them according to his will. This power is incredible, but difficult to master. If he's going to learn how to use his natural magic, it'll take the tutelage of Archmage Diamondspear, one of the most adept magic users in the kingdom.

Good, if predictable
Revisado: 03-28-22
the story and narration are both good, though it is a bit predictable at times. with how the plot points go it kind of feels like a children's book. it's one of those books where the main character is overpowered enough that they don't really face adversity, the only time he was really on the ropes at all was at the very beginning of the book.

Carter Morrison didn't want to kill his friends or himself, but he had a good reason. It was them or the end of all life on the planet. Their sacrifice saved the world. Not that anyone knew it. Until Katherine Manners stumbled over a melting man in a computer room clutching a message of doom from another world.

Disjointed
Revisado: 03-24-22
The book is well written and has great narration, but it is very disjointed. I wasn't able to get past chapter 5, the first few chapters are pretty disjointed and try to skip ahead 3 years and then fill it in with context clues. it ends up being confusing and leaving a lot of unanswered questions that just would have made more sense if they had given a summary of those three years.

An Interesting Listen
Revisado: 04-29-21
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this title. I find it particularly interesting how Virlyce took care to see the world from the zombie's perspective, such as thinking that ropes grow on trees due to circumstances.
It fell off a little after halfway through but picked up again after a chapter or two.
Overall if you think you might be interested after checking out the description or the sample, I would definitely recommend listening to this title.

No Conflict
Revisado: 03-05-21
The story doesn't go anywhere. The foundation of the story is there, but they don't do anything with it. This feels less like a story and more like a giant self-insert of the author.
They spend the beginning of the book laying a decent groundwork; the beginning reminds me a lot of the start of Ritualist by Dakota Krout.
Warning slight spoilers; if you don't want to keep reading, it boils down to they face no conflict and overcome no challenges.
Following the entry to the game, the MC gets the usual OP freebies when entering the world, which is almost expected. The problem for me sets in when they keep piling stuff on, OP weapon, race, skills; the MC does nothing to obtain any of these and is given them without any effort on his part, even giving him an infinite supply of money, again with no effort on his part.
While I am glad that this book, while a harem doesn't place a ton of focus on sex which I appreciate, it also doesn't build any relationships past the first two, one follows him because they are as lonely and want a friend, one because they are a freed slave coming to terms with that, the rest, no clue, the others are added very quickly although much buildup. It feels like the author realized he was over halfway through the book and realized he only had a harem of two and just went crazy with it. While the MC isn't oblivious to it, he has absolutely no stance on the matter; it seems like he's indifferent to, well, everything.
My main issue with this book is that there is no conflict besides a single monster attack quickly resolved. There is no confusion with the guards, no thief in the streets, no bandits on the roads, no conflict mentioned in the world that isn't referring to the past. I realize the idea is that this guy just wants to build his cabin, but nothing happens in this story besides the world piling OP stuff and women on him.

Rising Action
Revisado: 01-06-21
It is a fine addition to the first book, though it felt like the author could have added some parts and that it didn't have much of a climax, just a lot of rising action. I feel like some additional lines added could help ground the story more, making it feel more like the story of Long Wu Ying's life and less like a collection of events from his life, such as a line about him dropping by the wrestling elder to apologize for the sudden change, it feels like something he would do. It seems weird he was never given a second thought. Additionally, with the trip near the end of the book, it feels more like a collection of two or three events where the character had no real development until arriving at the destination; I wish they would have gone into more detail, building or at least detailing relationships between characters while they were all together. Regarding it all being rising action, well, I just felt like there was no climax for the book, possibly at the end, but it felt more like a late addition because the story needed to go somewhere. It left me hoping that there is a war or some major conflict in the next book to help balance it out.

Missing something
Revisado: 01-05-21
The book is good overall, I just bought the second. However, it feels like it's missing something, I'm not quite sure what though, perhaps not enough descriptive language I honestly couldn't tell you what anything looks like, even the main character.
