Historia
From the dignified grace of Augustus to the cruel debauchery of Nero, this history chronicles all the vices and virtues of the first twelve rulers of Imperial Rome. The Twelve Caesars was written based on the information of eyewitnesses and public records. It conveys a very accurate picture of court life in Rome and contains some of the raciest and most salacious material to be found in all of ancient literature.

Scandalous!
Revisado: 05-26-05
One can only hope that much of this book is exaggerated gossip as generally believed! Nonetheless, I got a good feel for the history of the early Roman empire by understanding the succession of early emperors. I had no idea how completely inept most of these emperors were!

Historia
In a voice both haunting and startlingly immediate, Nitta Sayuri describes her life as a geisha. Taken from her home at the age of nine, she is sold into slavery to a renowned geisha house. Witness her transformation as you enter a world where appearances are paramount, virginity is auctioned to the highest bidder, women beguile powerful men, and love is scorned as illusion.

Better than I expected!
Revisado: 05-26-05
My wife chose this book for a long trip but never listened to it. I gave it a try and ended up really liking it! It was a great micro-history of civilian life during the war (that's not what it's really about, but was an interesting part for me). The book dispelled some pre-conceived notions about Geisha that I (and I'm sure most other Westerners) had.

Historia
One of the great adventure novels of our language creates a most engaging central character, Nostromo. A picturesque man of action and popular hero, Nostromo lives to be "well-spoken of" by the citizens of Costaguana, the mythical South American banana republic where the story takes place. Around this figure, Conrad spins a story of revolution, politics, and racial conflict as complex as Nostromo, the man whose greatest enemy is himself.

Couldn't get through it
Revisado: 05-26-05
This was the only book I've listened to that I've had to leave unfinished. I just couldn't get through more than a few hours. I think the main problem is that this book just doesn't lend itself to narration very well. Perhaps a different narrator would help, but I doubt it. It seemed like a good book, though - I'll try the print version.
