More of a murder mystery than a horror novel

If you’re looking for bone-chilling horror, this is not the book for you. (Try Tudor’s book The Drift instead.) The Gathering is a murder mystery with spooky, paranormal elements but nothing really jumps out at you. That said, this is an excellent book. There were a few moments where the performance came off as a little shaky, but overall I had a grand time listening to this.

I’ve been following Alex Bertie online since we were both fourteen, and we came out as trans at the same time. Reading this newest work from him feels incredibly gratifying; he’s grown so much as a person. I read mostly dark, sad books and this was a nice palate-cleanser from my usual doom and gloom. I’m looking forward to reading more from him in the future.
