Narration not my favorite
Revisado: 11-25-21
I like the story, and the narrator does well with the female characters but I am annoyed by the way she does Jackaby’s voice. I understand that he is supposed to be an eccentric but the strange inflections and hard consonants are irritating enough that I don’t think I will purchase the next book if it’s the same voice actor. It ruined the character for me.

New favorite!

I enjoyed the witty banter of the characters, the original storyline, and the narration. I also love finding a writer that can put a little bit of romance into a fantasy novel without making it too graphic and dirty - keeping it PG! :-)

Heroine insecure and indecisive
Revisado: 01-21-20
I really want to like this story. The story line had great potential but the characters felt flat and I found that I wasn't emotionally invested in any of them. I wonder if it is due to the narration, maybe if I read it rather than listened to it? The narrator reads the protagonist as near hysterical most of the time and is constantly yelling. I feel like there are ways that a good performer can emphasize something in ways other than shouting. It didn't even only happen at life and death moments, she was yelling in even reflective internal monologue moments. The over acting ruined it for me, made the protagonist seem angsty and insecure. I kept listening hoping she would show some character development and maybe get over her anxieties...but she didn't.

Historia
There’s a price on Everley Donovan’s head. Fleeing from the queen’s false accusation of murder and sorcery, the girl with the clock heart knows there’s only one way to prove her innocence. Everley must catch Killian Markham, the fugitive prince guilty of the crimes for which she’s been condemned. To do that, Everley must follow him into the towering realm of the Silver-Clouded Plain. It’s where flesh-eating behemoths thrive, long-lost gods hide, and an artifact of destructive force awaits the death grip of the immortal prince.

Couldn't get over the Narrator
Revisado: 01-21-20
I listened to the first and second books in this series and kept going because I wanted to hear the resolution, but I finally have had all I can stand of this narrator and quit listening. The story drags and was taking too long and repeatedly going over the same things, but the real reason I can't finish it is the performance. I have listened to and quit listening to books done by her before and I just can't get used to the way she reads. She YELLS EVERYTHING!! She overdoes the drama big time in my opinion. She places emphasis in the strangest places in her phrasing. It makes it hard to emotionally connect with the characters when she reads them as yelling and all drama all the time.

Historia
Aribelle is backed into the position of cleaning house for the horrible Mr. Thaddeus Walker. Not only is he rude, he's dangerously secretive, going out at night and coming home with injuries which seem to heal mysteriously fast. She should be keeping her distance, not trying to break down his barriers. But the more she uncovers, the more attracted she becomes until the cost of exposing his secrets fades behind the risk of losing her heart.

Cute story
Revisado: 03-06-19
The story is a sweet beauty and the beast reimagined. No surprises and not much to the characters and their relationship, but cute. However, the narration was not great. The main male character narration reminded me of an old man holding a cigar in his teeth, and the female lead character sounds like a whining child at times. It wasn't the worst narration I've heard, but not how I imagined the story to be told at all.

One of my favorites
Revisado: 03-01-17
I have read this novel twice before and decided to purchase the companion audio version. It was well done. I didn't mind the narrator like I sometimes do with audio books, she did a good job. Mostly though, I just love the story. The hero and heroine are relatable and likeable. Their relationship is sweet and I enjoy the gradual understanding you gain from the flashbacks. I enjoy novels with a little clean romance and a story line that doesn't seem too contrived or pradictable. For me, this book hits all the marks.

Historia
Leorah Langdon has no patience for Regency society's shallow hypocrisy and unnecessary rules, especially for women. She's determined to defy convention by marrying for grand passion instead of settling for a loveless union like her parents - or wedding a stuffy, pompous gentleman like Edward, the Viscount Withinghall. But when a chance meeting in the countryside leads to Leorah and Withinghall being discovered in his overturned carriage, the ensuing gossip may force them together.

mildly entertaining
Revisado: 02-26-17
I appreciate this as a sweet, clean romance. The plot was mildly entertaining but not overly complex and at times quite predictable. The narration left more to be desired. I can't for the life of me understand why the narrator read the hero in such a high and whiney tone, it drove me nuts clear to the end. Nevertheless, it was worth the listen and I'd listen to another by this author.
