Historia
Near the end of her life, Mary Mann Hamilton (1866-c.1936) was encouraged to record her experiences as a female pioneer. The result is the only known firsthand account of a remarkable woman thrust into the center of taming the American South - surviving floods, tornadoes, and fires; facing bears, panthers, and snakes; managing a boardinghouse in Arkansas that was home to an eccentric group of settlers; and running a logging camp in Mississippi that blazed a trail for development in the Mississippi Delta.

Historia
There was a short time in Australia's European history when two women wielded extraordinary power and influence behind the scenes of the fledgling colony. One was Elizabeth Macquarie, the wife of the new Governor Lachlan Macquarie, nudging him towards social reform and magnificent buildings and town planning. The other was Elizabeth Macarthur, credited with creating Australia's wool industry and married to John Macarthur, a dangerous enemy of the establishment.

Phenomenal!

I appreciate the grief the author reveals in the start of the story. The writing is almost poetic. To be alive during such a time! Very provoking! Performance is amazing as well.

Historia
In the 1880s, a sixth daughter learns not to ask for much, even if she’s the daughter of an earl. Even if she married the richest man in her corner of Sussex. Even if she’s now a widow with a splendid Georgian mansion. Lady Odelia invites newly widowed Lady Helena Whitcombe into the seductive world of medieval fantasies and fairy tales she has inhabited since Helena was a child. But when a shocking series of events exposes the destructive reality of a great artist’s unusual lifestyle, Helena and her lady’s maid Guttridge are called on to help—or is it to interfere?

Thank you a million times over for this series. I am an avid reader of historical mysteries. Rarely write reviews. I feel as though this is a hidden gem of a series. The characters are so beautifully written and preformed. I feel as though I’m a member of the wild family! Author does an excellent job of developing characters, peeling back layers and adding quirks to all. The mysteries kept me on my toes. The humor was perfect for a mystery. More than once I found myself verbally responding to the main character’s moments of reverie. Thank you for the excellent performance and story!

Historia
Sussex, 1881. Lady Helena Scott-De Quincy's marriage to Sir Justin Whitcombe, three years before, gave new purpose to a life almost destroyed by the death of Lady Helena's first love. After all, shouldn't the preoccupations of a wife and hostess be sufficient to fulfill any aristocratic female's dreams? Such a shame their union wasn't blessed by children...but Lady Helena is content with her quiet country life until Sir Justin is found dead in the river overlooked by their grand baroque mansion.

Loved!
Revisado: 09-04-22
This series got me through my second round of COVID. I’m so hooked. I generally won’t turn away a historical mystery and rarely write reviews. But this series has been so captivating. I love the nicknames within the family, the adventures and intrigue. I always love a strong female sleuth but this book does a great job of acknowledging the difficulties in class differences a woman faces when trying to be independent. I love how the narrator portrays the oldest brother. I love the complexities revealed in the romantic relationships. So many unpredictable twists and turns. Please continue this series!

I seem to disagree with many. I love the narrator and was used to the change after the first chapter. She’s amazing. I love the story and it is as I would expect to enjoy after the previous books in this series.
