Historia
"No killing Goblins." So reads the sign outside of The Wandering Inn, a small building run by a young woman named Erin Solstice. She serves pasta with sausage, blue fruit juice, and dead acid flies on request. And she comes from another world. Ours. It's a bad day when Erin finds herself transported to a fantastical world and nearly gets eaten by a Dragon. She doesn't belong in a place where monster attacks are a fact of life, and where Humans are one species among many. But she must adapt to her new life. Or die.

The start of an epic
Revisado: 08-31-20
The Wandering Inn is an incredible story; gripping, hilarious, tragic, and terrifying. It is an ongoing webserial available for free, and as of writing has upwards of 5 million words across 7 volumes. That's more than 13 times the length of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and took me 5 months of obsessive reading to catch up. It was worth every moment.
The narrator, Andrea Parsneau, does an excellent but not perfect job. I think she mildly over-emphasizes many lines, and her voice isn't able to lower to the deep tones appropriate to many of the male characters. That however is all more than balanced out by the impeccably perfect voice for Erin, and the wide range of delightful accents she can do. Ideally, I would prefer she have a co-narrator for the deep male voices.

Another Fantastic Entry
Revisado: 05-18-17
This was a beautiful love story, an intriguing political drama, an exploration of science-fiction elements with a hint of fantasy magic, and a story of escaping abuse and familial oppression. Highly recommended, and one of several excellent books with which to start the Liaden saga.

Great story, decent-good narrator
Revisado: 11-25-16
The Liaden universe is deep and fascinating, and gets more so with every book. Having been introduced with Theo Waitley's story, the "magic" elements were surprising and can still be weird, but little more than that.
When this narrator gets his voices right, my God does he get them right. Most of the time he does, luckily with most of the main characters. Sometimes though, the voices he gives characters seem out of place or simply unpleasant to listen to. Patrin, for instance, has a very nasally voice which is described as smooth, and I find his Extrang voices ill-suited to the characters. Still, at worst his performance is decent and at best it's incredible.

Historia
The world is broken. The powerful machines that once ruled over land and sky fought and died, leaving humanity in a primitive age of swords and monsters. But that was long ago, and only legends of the Schism remain. Enoch has never been frightened by these tales. He sees things differently from the other youth in Rewn's Fork, and that makes him an outcast. Where others see crops and weather and flocks of sheep, Enoch sees numbers and patterns.

Gripping story and phenomenal performance
Revisado: 07-05-16
This book is a science fiction story with the feel of Epic Fantasy. The world is a captivating mystery in the early chapters that makes you feel as if anything is possible and all of it wonderful. The character of Enoch is endearing, the portrayal of his autism giving a clear description of what it is like to live with that and making him empathetic even to those who have never experienced what he does. The story lagged a bit in the middle, almost losing me while Enoch stayed in Babel, but soon enough picked up and was engaging again. As a whole I feel the book was a little bit too long but deeply enjoyable. I will definitely be continuing the series and I recommend you give it a try as well.

Historia
Altin Meade is a sorcerer with a curse. Seeking to avoid a looming doom, he sets his magical sights on the stars--a quest that will likely bring about the very consequence he's seeking to escape. Far across the galaxy, Ensign Orli Pewter of planet Earth has a looming doom of her own--one of loneliness, depression and, worse, a race of genocidal aliens known as Hostiles seeking to destroy humanity.

A gripping exploration of a fascinating concept
Revisado: 10-01-15
Galactic Mage is a story more focused on exploring an interesting concept than telling a tight plot, and it does a fantastic job of that.
In theory, half the book is focused on the adventures of the mage Altin as he tries to use magic to get into space, and the other half focuses on Orli, a young woman who has spent half her life trapped on one ship in a fleet on a mission to investigate a hostile threat.
In practice, more of the book focuses on Altin. His experience has little conflict, except against his own limitations and challenges with magic. Orli's side provides the bulk of the conflict, facing an alien menace, until the two of them finally meet towards the end. The payoff was worth the wait, as I was laughing with delight at several moments after it finally happened.
The whole story was a delight to read, though after the climax the falling action was a little bit cliche and cheesy. That does not diminish the quality in the slightest though, and I highly recommend it.
