The book starts strong with a sympathetic character making a break from her abusive boyfriend and hitting the road. Along the way she meets a business woman and their stories collide. This surfaces the first twist which signals the downfall of the story. My allegiance to the character is broken making the rest of the story hard to stomach. When the bad guys meet their undoing you get the final twist. It's so jaw droppingly stupid it wrecks the entire experience.

Despite all this, the multi performer cast is excellent.

Throw your references out the door. This is an impossible premise - the moon suddenly becomes cheese - and runs at with no guard rails. Alternating between funnythrilling, and touching, we get to see how this outlandish event effects a handful of Americans. It a fun ride.

Will offers his usual solid narration which is always pleasant due to his enthusiasm and phrasing. His character voices, especially females, is weak marring what could be 5-stsr narration.

It starts kind of peculiar, Val is a woman who was part of children's show that ended with a tragic event that caused the show to be cancelled. It was so traumatic that she's blacked out that part of her life. The cast of the show gather for a réunion and ti meet a podcaster doing an expose of the show. What happened to these kids? The solution has me unhappy because it definitely a bait and switch.

The narrator is not very good at differentiating characters or emoting their feelings do this fantastical story comes off dry.

There is no one to root for in this cast of insufferable characters. The lead couple, married teachers with a shaky marriage are challenged further by a troubled student with a crush on the make teacher and anger management issues with his wife. Everyone makes very bad decisions, the wife buys too many shoes and one or more people are going to get hurt by this cluster truck. But with all the principles being so unlikeable, there was no one need for a happy ending or to even read the ending because who cares?

The book starts out as a regular mystery: a successful author's wife disappears as he receives the. biggest accolade of his career. His distress over her disappearance brings on writers block, and his agent suggests a getaway to a secluded cabin located sparsely populated Scottish island. But strange things are afoot there. Why is this place so odd? What happened to his wife? Answers lead to more questions. I was happy in the end that there were logical answers for all, but the ending leaves you with mixed feelings about the characters and the many deceptions at play.

The book has a promising start as a wild amount of disasters beset Chicago simultaneously. Blizzard of the century, followed by power grid collapse cause by some foreign virus, leading to meltdown at nuclear plants. Luckily our protagonist is a former nuclear engineer with a law enforcement background. He has a superfluous family. They are plucky enough to survive and band a group together to make a colony. Our main character goes off the rails into an odd neo dictator and other scientist are doing genetic experiments which could be the source of the mood swings. And there's a giant wolf/dog. And child trafficking. Bottom line, it's a mess.

Something happens that knocks out the power and Greyson is prepared, but his family is all split up. But they quickly get together and are no longer important. Locals are in awe of Greyson so are a constant annoyance. If you're really pathetic, Greyson will take you in. In book 4 another disaster occurs and proves you can only be prepped once. In the final chapter the author doubles down on the ambiguity. Bottom line sh-t happens and that's sh-tty.

The books aren't very fulfilling but the narration is very good.

This book much less interesting than the Prelude. Too much politics and too little action. But inside this are important character revelations that foreshadow the completion of the foundation. After listening to Scott Brick's narration of Prelude it was jarring to hear this very old school narration. So very monotone. No attempt to differentiate male and female characters. Brick returns on the next 3 volumes, but this dude is back for the finale. I will probably pass because of it.

My problem with this title is lack of a main storyline. What you get a dozens of viniettes on how The Marriage Act... a black mirror like law that forces everyone into an upgraded marriage experience monitored by auditors who can shuffle things up in relationships lose their spark. There are people in a sort of resistance, others who love it, and others with tragic ends. But with no firm consistent protagonist, it all sort of meanders. There are also funny commercials between viniettes.

There are so many sci-fi books today that pike at the themes if this book, but none are as grounded in heart. It's an exploration of what makes the best (and worst) in humans through a non stop journey through time, space, and 3 lifetimes. Great narration throughout. Highly recommend.
