Historia
On the night of October 6, 1998, 21-year-old Matthew Shepard left a bar with two alleged “strangers”, Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson. Eighteen hours later, Matthew was found tied to a log fence on the outskirts of town, unconscious and barely alive. Overnight, a politically expedient myth took the place of important facts. By the time Matthew died a few days later, his name was synonymous with anti-gay hate. The Book of Matt, first published in 2013, demonstrated that the truth was in fact far more complicated - and daunting.

So many failures
Revisado: 05-30-24
While a good book it is so hard to extract any hope from this read. While Matthew’s tragedy may not have been a hate crime it was a crime filled with hatred.

Historia
In virtually every way that can be measured, Gen Z’s mental health is worse than that of previous generations. Youth suicide rates are climbing, antidepressant prescriptions for children are common, and the proliferation of mental health diagnoses has not helped the staggering number of kids who are lonely, lost, sad and fearful of growing up. What’s gone wrong with America’s youth? In Bad Therapy, bestselling investigative journalist Abigail Shrier argues that the problem isn’t the kids—it’s the mental health experts.

Finally hope.
Revisado: 04-06-24
Living in a very “Liberal” community I often get side eye and sometimes condescending looks from parents in my community because I don’t raise my children the way everyone else does. For example I “allow” my middle school kids to cook for themselves breakfast and lunch and I know this sounds crazy but they have even scrambled an egg or two for me as well. Simple independent tasks my parents required my siblings and I to do that I took for granted as a child that I require my children to do; when I voice them to other parents in my cohort seem like almost child abuse. Listening to this book has given me hope that selfishly maybe I am doing the right thing by my children. I don’t agree with author on all points but most are spot on.
