The single-best audio production I've ever heard.
Revisado: 10-17-15
I've listened to scores of audio books as a long-time Audible subscriber and this production truly raises the bar.
Grand, sweeping attempts at overdrawn & overproduced productions leave me cold more often than not but for literally the first time, I felt immersed rather than pulled out of the story. The scope and breadth of recording suits the material, creating a deep, rich and captivating listen; in no way does it feel stuck on or an afterthought. Of particular note, the original score is a revelation–it's exactly the right temperature and truly adds to the narrative flow.
Every single aspect of this audio publication just sings; the story, the performances and the production values all add up to a whole greater than the sum of the individual parts. I imagine some of this reads as a little purple in its prose and might seem to suffer from a bit of hyperbole, but every syllable is true as I see it. Highest recommendations.

Historia
So this girl walks into a bar…and when she walks out there’s a man with her. She goes to bed with him, and she likes that part. Then she kills him, and she likes that even better. On her way out, she cleans out his wallet. She keeps moving, and has a new name for each change of address. She’s been doing this for a while, and she’s good at it. And then a chance remark gets her thinking of the men who got away, the lucky ones who survived a night with her.

Keller with some kink
Revisado: 09-28-11
I love me some Lawrence Block, particularly the Keller books (I've long considered Robert Forster's read of "Hit Man" a high-water mark for entertainment audiobooks). With "Getting Off," Block once again displays his penchant for crafting endearing sociopaths. Expertly-paced, colloquial and smart with some truly horrifying passages–Block fleshes out the main character's motivations by painting a hideously uncomfortable childhood–the book really cooks and gets under the skin. Lily Bask turns in a terrific performance, particularly when called upon to read some of the story's more risque action. Good fun & worth a listen.

Historia
Known by his alias, "Oliver Stone," John Carr is the most wanted man in America. With two pulls of the trigger, the men who destroyed Stone's life and kept him in the shadows were finally silenced. But his freedom comes at a steep price: The assassinations he carried out prompt the highest levels of the U.S. government to unleash a massive manhunt. Behind the scenes, master spy Macklin Hayes is playing a very personal game of cat and mouse. He, more than anyone, wants Stone dead.

Recording artists overindulged in distracting sfx
Revisado: 01-31-10
Fine enough Baldacci yarn; perhaps a bit implausible but suspension of disbelief is part and parcel of suspense thriller fiction. What is NOT a part of it is spoon-feeding the listener by dropping an inordinate number of distracting sound effects (I know what a gun firing is supposed to sound like). McLarty delivers a more than fine enough performance--I'd like to hear his voice and not a ton of gun shots drowning him out.
