Historia
Leovander Loveage is a master of small magics. He can summon butterflies with a song or turn someone’s hair pink by snapping his fingers. Though such minor charms don’t earn him much respect, anything more elaborate always blows up in his face, and so Leo vowed long ago never to use powerful magic again. That is, until a mishap with a forbidden spell binds Leo to obey the commands of his longtime rival, Sebastian Grimm. Grimm is Leo’s complete opposite—respected, exceptionally talented, and absolutely insufferable.

it was surprisingly nuanced
Revisado: 11-06-24
It was entertaining, well written and fairly unpredictable. For a concept that's often overdone, magic, I feel this was an excellent take and a refreshing adventure. The characters were very well done as well.

RF King is a masterful weaver of war and fantasy. this is truely an excellent series. the stakes feel incredibly high at all points and the character development is not only realistic but brutal. brava!

Historia
Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. But the renewed interest in Dot also surfaced chatter about a mysterious past scandal.

Mehh, it was pretty ok
Revisado: 08-25-24
I found the beginning of this book to be pretty good but it got kind of dull and predictable towards the end. maybe I've just read too many mysteries at this point but it wasn't very nuanced. Also the romance was kind of idealistic. I suppose that's just how romance novels are though. overall it was readable.

Historia
When Rin aced the Keju - the Empire-wide test to find the most talented youth to learn at the Academies - it was a shock to everyone: to the test officials, who couldn’t believe a war orphan from Rooster Province could pass without cheating; to Rin’s guardians, who believed they’d finally be able to marry her off and further their criminal enterprise; and to Rin herself, who realized she was finally free of the servitude and despair that had made up her daily existence. That she got into Sinegard - the most elite military school in Nikan - was even more surprising.

Hard to get thru...in an amazing way
Revisado: 08-18-24
this book was incredible, but brutal. if you're not used to extreme graphic violence it can be a little much in parts. but the impressive characters, the historical context, and the magical components make it well worth the read. not at all your traditional fantasy. a page turner though a bit cringe-worthy at times.

Not her best but it's an earlier one
Revisado: 06-06-24
A bit amateurish as far as dialogue and plot. Some good action seems though. The narrator is a bit choppy but not that bad. Still a good attempt at a complex concept. it's great reading this compared to Gardiner's recent works, she's developed so much into an excellent author.

Revisado: 05-09-24
I'm not a big fan of the "somehow he knew" concept. unexplained intuition is kinda cheap. it was a bit preachy as well. but the story was good and the concepts were interesting. a little similar vibes to man in the high castle if you like that.
