Historia
They say that diplomacy is a gentle art. That mastering it is a lifetime's work. But you do need a certain inclination in that direction. It's not something you can just pick up on the job. A few days ago Sam Vimes was a copper - an important copper, true - chief of police - but still, at his core, a policeman. But today he is an ambassador - to the mysterious, fat-rich country of Uberwald. Today, Sam Vimes is also a man on the run. At some point during his ambassadorship, things went very wrong. It's snowing. It's freezing.

The new narrator is not a patch on Steven Briggs or Nigel Planner. Unfortunate that Amazon decided to update these books

Historia
Mining diamonds is a lucrative business, but it soon proves itself deadly. Shortly after Kubu joins the CID, the richest diamond mine in the world is robbed of 100,000 carats of diamonds in transit. The robbery is well-executed and brutal. Police immediately suspect an inside job, but there is no evidence of who it could be. When the robbers are killed execution-style in South Africa and the diamonds are still missing, the game changes, and suspicion focuses on a witch doctor and his son.

Kubu the detective.
Revisado: 05-20-22
the plot was interesting. the unraveling of it was a bit complicated because of the numerous characters. I loved the voice of the narrator but a list of the names of the characters would have helped. Needless to say I liked the introduction of Kubu to the CID.

Historia
In Phryne's third adventure, Phryne is off to Ballarat for a week of fabulousness, but the sedate journey by train turns out to be far from the restful trip she was planning. What was planned as a restful country sojourn turns into the stuff of nightmares: a young girl who can't remember anything, rumours of vile white slavery and the body of an old woman missing her emerald rings.

Historia
It is 1803, six years since Elizabeth and Darcy embarked on their life together at Pemberley, Darcy’s magnificent estate. Their peaceful, orderly world seems almost unassailable. Elizabeth has found her footing as the chatelaine of the great house. They have two fine sons, Fitzwilliam and Charles. Elizabeth’s sister Jane and her husband, Bingley, live nearby; her father visits often; there is optimistic talk about the prospects of marriage for Darcy’s sister Georgiana. And preparations are under way for their much-anticipated annual autumn ball.

Great narrator, somewhat disappointing story
Revisado: 02-09-12
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
The narration of this is outstanding, and feels just as a follow on from Pride and Prejudice should.
Would you recommend Death Comes to Pemberley to your friends? Why or why not?
Maybe - it is clearly very difficult to write something as a continuation of and homage to something as famous and fabulous as Pride and Prejudice, and in many ways James does a really good job. It just feels like there is too much information dumping at times, and that the true driver of the story is recreating the ambiance of Pemberly and its inhabitants, rather than James' usual intricate murder plots (of which I am also a fan). This is good for someone who is primarily interested in wallowing in the world of Pride and Prejudice, but not as a mystery per se.
What does Rosalyn Landor bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I cannot imagine the print version being anywhere near as good, as much of the ambiance comes from the excellent narration.

Wonderful Delhi English and sense of modern India
Revisado: 02-09-12
What did you love best about The Case of the Missing Servant?
The narration is, to put it in the words of Vish Puri, truly first class. Dastor beautifully captures the nuance and rhythms of Delhi English just as Hall captures the details of upper middle class Indian life.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
The twists of the plot are engaging, as is Vish Puri.
Any additional comments?
Highly recommend for anyone who knows anything of the culture, or indeed anyone who wants to get a charming (and realistically dodgy and corrupt) taste of modern India.
