Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Lighthearted Listen

A nice story if you are looking for a gentle ‘read’. Suspend disbelief and just run with it.
I enjoyed it very much.

Historia
Horrified by the thought of breaking off his life-long love-affair with running, Richard Askwith began to think seriously about a question with profound implications for every enthusiastic runner: how can you keep running, happily and well, for the rest of your life—ideally, well into your nineties and beyond? Askwith's quest for the secrets of running longevity takes him on a long, mystifying journey: to laboratories and running tracks, cities and remote mountain villages, on several continents.

Strangely Inspiring
Revisado: 02-09-23
While spending a great deal of time describing the problems with late life running Richard Askwith still managed to leave me inspired to pick up my pace and run a little (or even a lot) faster. The stars of late life running he highlights are nothing less than phenomenal. So glad I know about them now. My running life feels a little fuller and more joyful now.

Historia
We live in a world obsessed with drinking. We drink at baby showers and work events, brunch and book club, graduations and funerals. Yet no one ever questions alcohol’s ubiquity—in fact, the only thing ever questioned is why someone doesn’t drink. It is a qualifier for belonging and if you don’t imbibe, you are considered an anomaly. As a society, we are obsessed with health and wellness, yet we uphold alcohol as some kind of magic elixir, though it is anything but.

Fabulous approach, stunning honesty!
Revisado: 01-01-22
I’ve listened to this audio book 3 times. The kind approach to quitting alcohol and the author’s honestly about her own life and challenges with alcohol made this book life changing for me.
Whittaker’s research and insights about the role of alcohol in Western society were absolutely eye opening and gave me plenty to think about.
A thoroughly good listen whether you are considering quitting alcohol or not.
