Can't take the Covid preaching

Just over an hour in and I’m pulling the plug. Not because I’m not intrigued by the story (Stephen King never disappoints me with the story. Just, never.) Not because of the narration, either — Justine Lupe does a wonderful job (even though I would have loved Will Patton to carry on.) I’m returning this book because I simply cannot take any more sanctimonious shaming around Covid vaccine/Trump. I don’t even care what side of the debate anyone is on anymore, I just don’t want to hear about it in a Stephen King book. I love you, Steve, but I’m bowing out of this one.

Hugh Laurie rocks!

I love Alexander McCall Smith and read with pleasure just about everything he writes. Although the characters in his 44 Scotland Street and (sadly arrested after just three novels) Corduroy Mansions series are closer to my heart than those in Portuguese Irregular Verbs, this is possibly his funniest collection. The humour is delightfully absurd. But it is Hugh Laurie's outstanding narration that has motivated me to write a review. It is absolute perfection.

Susannah Harker is one of the best narrators I've ever listened to. I only wish she narrated more books.
