Historia
Many people talk about Donald Trump. Some people love him, and some people hate him. Some people try to explain why people love or hate Trump. Despite the copious conversation and plenteous explanations, there’s a lack of clarity about why people support Trump. Neither academia nor the political pundits can adequately explain the phenomenon that is Trump.

Great analysis of our current situation
Revisado: 04-25-25
This book was very informative, containing important historical concepts in an easily understandable form. Each chapter was clear and precise. The
phenomena, like jingoism and victimhood are observed on a regular basis. He presented them as part of a larger picture that helps the reader understand how and why we got here.

Historia
It was the 1960s - a time of economic boom and social strife. Young women poured into the workplace, but the “Help Wanted” ads were segregated by gender and the “Mad Men” office culture was rife with sexual stereotyping and discrimination. Lynn Povich was one of the lucky ones, landing a job at Newsweek, renowned for its cutting-edge coverage of civil rights and the “Swinging Sixties.” Nora Ephron, Jane Bryant Quinn, Ellen Goodman, and Susan Brownmiller all started there as well. It was a top-notch job - for a girl - at an exciting place. But it was a dead end.

I had watched the TV version of this story and felt compelled to read the book. Such courageous women whose efforts had impact way beyond their situation. Despite the current zeitgeist, we are NOT going back.

Historia
Written in an accessible, conversational style that incorporates numerous stories and questions, this book exposes the weaknesses of a Western worldview through a personal engagement with Indigenous theology. Randy Woodley critiques the worldview that undergirds the North American church by dismantling assumptions regarding early North American histories and civilizations. Woodley explains that Western theology has settled for a particular view of God and has perpetuated that basic view for hundreds of years, but Indigenous theology originates from a completely different DNA.

Historia
Life, Starr reminds us, is holy ground. Lyrical and tender, filled with profound wisdom and mind-opening insights, Ordinary Mysticism is about finding wonder in regular life, grounded in lessons from spiritual teachers across the centuries—from Julian of Norwich to Ram Dass. Starr combines their ancient wisdom with the story of her own personal and spiritual journey—from surviving the heartbreak of her fourteen-year-old daughter’s death to growing up amid the 1960s counterculture that introduced her to mysticism to her self-made spiritual practice of today.

Mirabai has a true gift in reaching my soul
Revisado: 10-05-24
I have read several of your boys books and taking some of her online classes. She never fails to reach me deeply in my soul and make me feel and realize what’s really there. The essence of who I am, which can often get lost in the hustle bustle of life. She reinforces my belief that I am a mystic. Not just somebody who is a deep thinker, quiet, or too sensitive . One who has always recognized and felt that there is more than the obvious.

Historia
For as long as historical records have existed, authoritarian regimes have tried to rewrite history to suit their purposes, using their dictatorial powers to create myths, spread propaganda, justify decisions, erase opponents, and even dispose of crimes. Today, as America’s Republican Party becomes increasingly radicalized, it’s not surprising to see the GOP read from a similarly despotic script. Indeed, the party is taking dangerous, aggressive steps to rewrite history—and not just from generations past.

Spells it all out plainly
Revisado: 08-17-24
Those of us who haven’t fallen for the gaslighting by the GOP and the media will appreciate this validation that we aren’t the one’s living in an alternative reality. That said, It’s still frightening to see how many are still under the influence. This book explains it in a concise way. Hopefully, people who are beginning to see the light may read this and finally understand.

Historia
Talking about death and dying is considered taboo in polite company, and even in the medical field. Our ideas about dying are confusing at best: Will our memories flash before our eyes? Regrets consume our thoughts? Does a bright light appear at the end of a tunnel? For most people, it will be a slower process, one eased with preparedness, good humor, and a bit of faith. At the forefront of changing attitudes around palliative care is hospice nurse Hadley Vlahos, who shows that end-of-life care can teach us just as much about how to live as it does about how we die.

Historia
The Reckoning will examine America’s national trauma, rooted in our history but dramatically exacerbated by the impact of current events and the Trump administration’s corrupt and immoral policies. Our failure to acknowledge this trauma, let alone root it out, has allowed it to metastasize. Whether it manifests itself in rising levels of rage and hatred, or hopelessness and apathy, the stress of living in a country we no longer recognize has affected all of us. America is suffering from PTSD - a new leader alone cannot fix us.

Excellent presentation of how we got here
Revisado: 05-30-23
For anyone who wonders how things have gone so wrong in the last eight years or so this is a must read. Mary does an excellent job of describing our history of inequality and how our stubborn refusal to view others as equal has caused so many problems not just for others, but for ourselves.
If there’s one thing we should have taken from Africans, it’s the concept of Ubuntu. That we are all humanity to each other. “I am because we are.”

It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.
