I’ve been a Laura Lippman fan for years, but she’s such a seething Trump hater that she couldn’t resist infusing her most mediocre story to date with snide asides about the former president.
She slathered on a bunch of white privilege guilt for good measure. Ugh. Lippman’s slipping.

To be interesting is to be noticed, and to be noticed is dangerous. Milkman is a tale of gossip and hearsay, silence and deliberate deafness. It is a story of inaction with enormous consequences.

This is the rare book that really OUGHT to be listened to rather than read. Rather, listen to it and you’ll want to read it. Terrific story, fabulous narrator and - as someone who was living in Ireland during The Troubles - rings fabulously, authentically true. Loved the style, the humor and most of all the language.

I’m a huge Laura Lippman fan and this may be her best novel so far. “Sunburn” is less a police procedural or mystery than it is a tense psychodrama. As usual, Lippman’s sense of place and attention to detail is impeccable. Also, Susan Bennett’s narration is first rate.
