Historia
On his last combat deployment, Lt. Cmdr. James Reece's entire team was killed in an ambush that also claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue them. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government. Now, with no family and free from the military's command structure, Reece applies the lessons that he's learned in over a decade of constant warfare toward revenge.

Seriously?
Revisado: 07-14-22
The writer can put two sentences, I give him that. This is not a thriller, it is a right wing fantasy about killing liberals or peoplle perceived to be. The premise is that Liberals, wanting to make money treating PTSD, inject as test subjects, a bunch of special forces. people (all of whom should be male mind you) with a drug that gives them all brain tumors (all mind you) so they arrange an ambush that kills all but one two, and they then kill one and the wife and child (why? don't know) of the second. So he kills them all in exotic tortuous means, not caring about collateral damage (just their bad day). In the end, he kills all the liberals and sails off into the distance so he can kill more in a sequel. My favorite is a pilot with a war in jury drawing disability who isn't, but because she is a veteran she deserves it.
Summing it up. Seals can get revenge for people getting killed, and can kill innocent people to do it, because they are not Seals. Only Seals are "real" people. Overall an insight into the rightwing war porn industry.

The book is a pleasant read. You don’t have to worry about zombies and mobs. It is well written and entertains. A WASP apocalypse.

Historia
This is the story of Leif Grettison, a crew member of humanity’s first flight to the stars, even though he had not expected to take that trip. The year is 2069. The Troubles, a decade plus of proxy, and direct warfare among the US, Russia, and China, had brought the world to the brink of apocalypse. It was close enough to finally scare the leaders of the powers into signing the Geneva Treaties, a set of agreements pledging peace, cooperation, and the dismantling of the military complexes.

Historia
Greg Donahue’s The Minuteman, tells the story of one of Newark’s native sons; ex-prizefighter and longtime Zwillman enforcer Sidney Abramowitz, a.k.a. Nat Arno, who took over leadership of the Minutemen in 1934 and made it his personal business to put an end to what he saw as the Bund’s “anti-American” activities. For six years, Arno and his crew of vigilantes battled Newark’s Nazis at every turn. The Minuteman is a story of the ethics of violence in the face of fascism; a forgotten legacy that is as relevant now as it was nearly a hundred years ago.

A Forgotten Piece of History
Revisado: 02-07-20
A well told, no holds barred, look at American history without the purification that is so often applied to make heroes pure. It this book, they are just men and women, flaws and all. But a good work, well done, and memorable.

If Overt Racism doesn't bother you, then read it
Revisado: 02-07-20
I've enjoyed the movies, but had never read Clancy. I was deeply disappointed. Long rants interspersed with occasionally brilliant writing. But in the end, it was the overt racism in the book that made me dislike it. It was just an over the top tribute to the soldiers of the Slavers Rebellion and if you took those elements and about 50,000 words of rant it would have been a good book.

How will the world end? With aliens or angels? Or a groundhog? Bleak despair? Martial fervor? Or a belly laugh? Whatever the apocalypse, it will be borne by people and their families and their dogs and most of all, it will challenge their notions of themselves. This anthology includes international award-winning writers, poets, and thinkers that give you their version of the apocalypse.

Humor to the End
Revisado: 02-07-20
One does not think you can chuckle at the Apocalypse. And not all stories will achieve that, but over all the stories here are a well balanced thoughtful look at the concept of an Apocalypse. From Jim Wright's master piece, The Deserter to the final story by Peggy Ruppel that left me laughing out loud. This is a fine collection, well performed. My primary wish that it had been longer. I look forward to reading more of the Alternative's series of anthologies this is part of. A well done collection. The narration is professional and well done. It was an overall good decision. I don't often buy collections, but this one held together beautifully.

Historia
Orphaned when still a toddler, Nicholas Withybeck knows no other home than Locksley Abbey outside Nottingham, England. He works in the scriptorium embellishing illuminated manuscripts with hidden faces of the Wild Folk and whimsical creatures that he sees every time he ventures into the woods and fields. His curiosity leads him into forbidden nooks and crannies both inside and outside the abbey, and he becomes adept at hiding to stay out of trouble. On one of these forays, he finds an altar older than the abbey's foundations, ancient when the Romans occupied England.

A Tightly Written Fantasy
Revisado: 01-17-20
I've read about every kind of fantasy there is. On thing that always bugged me was the "padding." Moving the story incrementally forwarded with a long backstory on the tapestry on the wall and endless descriptions of the style of the dress. This is not one of those books. It is a tightly written fantasy that brings many characters you may know, Robin Hood, Friar Tuck, and of course the Sheriff, and puts them on a crisply defined stage and tells a story. A good story. There are characters that matter. Issues that matter. A well paced slice of the world where the stakes are personal, the characters, their motivations, and actions are real. You don't "want" to believe in this world, you DO believe in this world. The book leaves stories to be told in this world and I look forward to reading them because it is so seldom you see a truly new and original fantasy book that doesn't drag you on with an unfinished story, but carries you forward into a world you would have more of.

Late Bloomer
Revisado: 05-31-19
The first couple chapters were rather good. THEN CAME THE BAD STUFF. And the last third of the book were pretty good. The problem is the heroine is simply an observer, going from absurd scene to absurd scene while the author built her world. Once the world was established she got on with the story.
Once in the story, I still had trouble with the passive nature. She is surrounded by interesting characters but she never really does much except go where she is told, do what she is told and led around by bolder men.
If a second book is ever written, I beg the author to make the girl into more than a prop for a series of fantastic settings.
