Historia
For years, Walmart and Amazon operated in separate spheres—one a massive brick-and-mortar retailer, the other an online giant. But in 2016, Walmart aggressively moved into the world of e-commerce, while Amazon made big bets in physical retail. The resulting rivalry is a bare-knuckle power struggle as each titan tries to outmaneuver the other to become the biggest omnichannel retailer in the world. As the two megacorporations have consolidated power, troubling consequences have also emerged.

Multi-layered, insightful, entertaining and educational

This is one of the best business books I’ve listened to. It catches your attention because you really get a sense of the human beings that are driving some of the huge decisions that are impacting all of our lives. As a business person and a technologist it’s also an amazing set of case studies that anyone that wants to be successful either in a large company or a very small company should take note of.

Historia
Malcolm Evans, the Beatles’ long-time roadie, personal assistant, and devoted friend, was an invaluable member of the band’s inner circle. A towering figure in horn-rimmed glasses, Evans loomed large in the Beatles’ story, contributing at times as a performer and sometime lyricist, while struggling mightily to protect his beloved “boys.” He was there for the whole of the group’s remarkable, unparalleled story: from the Shea Stadium triumph through the creation of the timeless cover art for Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and the famous Let It Be rooftop concert.

Cringeworthy. Why have an American narrate a British story and not check pronunciation?
Revisado: 01-22-24
It’s a very interesting story, but it’s hard to concentrate when you are constantly distracted by the voice of an American who is unfamiliar with how to pronounce the names of British people and places. Why!?
I imagine this was so that the larger US audience could relate to the story. But it doesn’t make sense to have an American voice narrating this quintessential British story. Much worse is the massacre of British names which are mispronounced one after the other. It is like fingers on a chalkboard.
This fascinating story shouldn’t be wasted like this. Did no one listen before it was published? If you don’t re-record, at least overdub the appalling mistakes.

Historia
Feeding the world, climate change, biodiversity, antibiotics, and plastics - the list of concerns seems endless. But what is most pressing, what are the knock-on effects of our actions, and what should we do first? Do we all need to become vegetarian? How can we fly in a low-carbon world? Should we frack? How can we take control of technology? Does it all come down to population? And, given the global nature of the challenges we now face, what on Earth can any of us do?

One of the best and most important books I have ever read
Revisado: 06-22-23
While the topic of this book is hugely important and consequential. The tone is informal, friendly, and at times humorous. I believe this book is a masterpiece. I was so engaged that I listened to the whole thing in less than three days.
Mike is self deprecating in style, while being insightful, comprehensive and reasonable in what he recommends we do to avert the biggest disaster that humanity has ever faced.
He is also a good performer.

Wonderful but not comprehensive
Revisado: 05-17-20
A real treat. A great reading from the man himself. Great perspective on John Cheese’s early life. Some huge laughs sprinkled in. Priceless insights into his process but many episodes are skimmed over. He is either leaving room for a sequel or list patience with the writing process.

Very entertaining and a very credible repudiation of the allegations against him

For fans a great read.
For anyone denouncing him, an important version of events to listen to. I was convinced of his innocence.
