Historia
August 1939: London is dismal under the weight of impending war with Germany as Hitler’s forces continue to sweep across Europe. Into this uncertain maelstrom steps Grace Bennett, young and ready for a fresh start in the bustling city streets she’s always dreamed of - and miles away from her troubled past in the countryside. With aspirations of working at a department store, Grace never imagined she’d wind up employed at Primrose Hill, an offbeat bookshop nestled in the heart of the city - after all, she’s never been much of a reader.

Wonderfully written, beautifully read, this story touched my heart. It will give you a greater appreciation for survivors of war and a deeper love of books.

Historia
Snow is a rarity in Maura Donovan's small village in County Cork, Ireland, so she wasn't sure what to expect when a major snowstorm rolled in around Sullivan's pub. But now she's stranded in a bar full of patrons - and a suspected killer in a long-ago murder. Maura's been in Ireland less than a year and hasn't heard about the decades-old unsolved crime that took place nearby, let alone the infamous suspect, Diane Caldwell.

I wish I could give it 5 stars…
Revisado: 04-03-23
I really do! I love series books. I love the characters and how they grow and how we get to see how they get through different situations.
I enjoyed these books at first, but the increasing repetition and the main character’s thoughts/doubts/angst, all the while she keeps saying she’s not a local, yet keeps taking charge of situations, is just to much.
Then, the scene in the bar during the snow storm when she tells everyone “no spitting or throwing things…” is so ridiculous it’s laughable - but not funny, if ya know what I mean. Seriously. 🤦♀️
I want to keep listening, but in truth, I should have stopped after the 2nd or 3rd book, at least.

Historia
Summer is ending in County Cork, Ireland, and with it the tourist season. Expat Maura Donovan is determined to keep Sullivan's Pub in the black as the days grow shorter - but how? When she hears that the place was once a hot spot for Irish musicians who'd come play in the back room, she wonders if bringing back live music might be Sullivan's salvation.

Enjoyable but a little too much worrying going on. Love the cozy feel of the small Irish town, though!

Distracting Narrator
Revisado: 01-15-23
Enjoyable story but the cadence and inflection of the reader was distracting for me. I almost stopped listening early on because of this. I very much doubt I will listen to this narrator again…no matter how good the author.

Historia
The last thing Jake Bryan knew was the roar of the World Trade Center collapsing on top of him and his fellow firefighters. The man in the hospital bed remembers nothing. Not rushing with his teammates up the stairway of the south tower to help trapped victims. Not being blasted from the building. And not the woman by his bedside. Jamie Bryan will do anything to help her beloved husband regain his memory, and with it their storybook family life with their daughter, Sierra. But that means helping Jake rediscover the one thing Jamie has never shared with him: his deep faith in God.

Moving Story - terrible narrations
Revisado: 06-17-22
I almost stopped listening several times because the narration was poorly done. One of the women readers had some sort of click in her voice, nose, or dentures. It was terribly distracting! If this book hadn’t come so highly recommended I would have stopped and returned it. I’d like to know who narrated it so I don’t buy one of their narrations again.

Let down…
Revisado: 05-03-22
I LOVE this series. I’ve waited for this book. I’ve read and reread her previous books. This one left me wondering if I’d slept through the good parts…really (I honestly didn’t - I was driving). I couldn’t believe it when the narrator proclaimed “The End”. Seriously? I was waiting for the book to begin.
I’m sadly disappointed. I will try to give it another listen but…
