Historia
At the end of her best-selling memoir Eat, Pray, Love, Elizabeth Gilbert fell in love with Felipe, a Brazilian-born man of Australian citizenship who'd been living in Indonesia when they met. Resettling in America, the couple swore eternal fidelity to each other, but also swore to never, ever, under any circumstances get legally married. But providence intervened one day in the form of the United States government....

The sincerely in which the author analyses marriage and consequences 🦉
Revisado: 05-03-25
I like the clarity and clever manner of explaining her story, authentic and autobiographical, at the same time it’s obvious for us readers that she is trying to look for consensus by exploring marriages in other cultures in a very open manner. We end up by celebrating her path and the power of ❤️

Historia
The great scholar, W. E. B. Du Bois, once wrote about the problem of race in America, and what he called “Double Consciousness,” a sensitivity that every African American possesses in order to survive. Since childhood, Ailey Pearl Garfield has understood Du Bois’s words all too well. Bearing the names of two formidable Black Americans—the revered choreographer Alvin Ailey and her great grandmother Pearl, the descendant of enslaved Georgians and tenant farmers—Ailey carries Du Bois’s problem on her shoulders.

Historia
"Good people, I am come hither to die, and by a law I am condemned to the same." These were the heartbreaking words of a 17-year-old girl, Lady Jane Grey, as she stood on the scaffold awaiting death on a cold February morning in 1554. Minutes later, her head was struck from her body with a single stroke of a heavy ax. Her death for high treason sent shock waves through the Tudor world and served as a gruesome reminder to all who aspired to a crown that the ax could fall at any time.

Accuracy and clear explanation of historical facts
Revisado: 04-04-25
I liked the moving story of this nine days queen, a dramatic historical figure, so young and intelligent whose destiny was so cruel. Jane was only seventeen when she was placed as a Queen of England without her willingness. She was put to dead only a few months after that, She accepted her destiny becoming a martyr in her mind since she refused to change her religion that was such an inspiring and strong force for her.
The author of the book makes us feel very connected to Jane who comes truly alive in the narration of events that, in so many ways, we readers wish they were only fictional. The truth is that we want this clever young woman not to die, to give her the chance of a very different, more human and gentle destiny. It’s a very moving story and very well written.

Right to our hearts!
Revisado: 07-13-23
Kristen Hannah always manages to place us inside her characters emotions. As the story unfolds,
we are totally embracing their emotions and identity with their struggles,
The narration becomes a realistic mirror of personalities, so human and natural ,that we end up by feeling as an integral part of their family. We very much care about their redemption and happiness. In short: a compassionate story touching our hearts!

Historia
