Historia
With all the passion, curiosity, and precise yet lyrical prose that have marked his previous books, Alan Lightman here explores the emotional and philosophical questions raised by discoveries in science, focusing most intently on the human condition and the needs of humankind. He looks at the difficult dialogue between science and religion, the conflict between our human desire for permanence and the impermanence of nature, the possibility that our universe is simply an accident, the manner in which modern technology has separated us from direct experience of the world, and our resistance to the view that our bodies and minds can be explained by scientific logic and laws.

Very interesting and not too technical for a non scientist like me. The narration was clear and pleasant, I will and have listened to this audio book repeatedly.

Historia
Just in the last three years a flood of new scientific findings, driven by revelations discovered in the human genome, has provided compelling new answers to many long-standing mysteries about our most ancient ancestors, the people who first evolved in Africa and then went on to colonize the whole world. Nicholas Wade weaves this host of news-making findings together for the first time into an intriguing new history of the human story before the dawn of civilization.

Interesting and informative
Revisado: 09-24-21
The narrator has a voice that’s clear and pleasant. The book addressed migration, language and cultural patterns going back to before humans left Africa. The content of the book helps me to understand humanity a little better. I recommend the book either in audio or print!

Historia
At the heart of this classic, seminal book is Julian Jaynes' still-controversial thesis that human consciousness did not begin far back in animal evolution but instead is a learned process that came about only 3,000 years ago and is still developing. The implications of this revolutionary scientific paradigm extend into virtually every aspect of our psychology, our history and culture, our religion - and indeed our future.

An Archaelogical Expedition of Our Minds
- De Michael en 10-08-15
Interesting ideas as to the origin of consciousness.
Revisado: 11-24-20
The hypothesis is interesting and Jaynes makes his ideas understandable. As someone who has read the Bible as a Christian in my youth I see the point Jaynes makes regarding the language of the earlier books of the Old Testament as compared to its later books with a sense of self-awareness even more evident in the books of the the New Testament. Jaynes makes that point well when comparing the Iliad to the Odyssey as he believes the two poems were originally transmitted orally over time.

Science of Interstellar - review
Revisado: 07-01-15
Very interesting and well done. I am a lay person fan of popular science and I was able to enjoy every chapter of the book. Kip Thorne is a brilliant scientist and an excellent author of popular science.
