Historia
This book is made up of 33 chapters. Each chapter is a different basketball question that needs to be answered. Some of them are obviously crucial (example: what's the most important NBA championship?) and some of them are secretly crucial (example: was Kobe Bryant a dork?). But all of them are approached in ways that (I hope you think) are smart and fun and nuanced. Also, you should know ahead of time that some of the pieces go a bit sideways sometimes, like the chapter that ends up just being the script of an action movie.

In the sample he mentioned sideways tangents...take it seriously
Revisado: 02-27-18
I was really looking forward to this book but I actually didn’t like it.
He has some nonsense like comparing a scenario on who would fare better, Karl Malone in the woods or a bear on the Utah Jazz. Or the movie character fantasy draft with only fictional characters from movies. Or the frankenplayer where he takes some of the weirdest characteristics of each player and makes almost no sense.
Not a book I’d recommend if you intently listen to audiobooks.

Historia
In this extraordinary memoir, Vidal recalls his accomplishments and defeats, discusses the friends and enemies he has made, and contemplates the nature of mortality. In the Navy, Vidal was forced to use point to point navigation whenever compasses failed. It is an apt analogy for his life, which has been filled with triumphs as well as controversies. Vidal has had relationships with innumerable luminaries, including President Kennedy, Tennessee Williams, Eleanor Roosevelt, Orson Welles, and Greta Garbo.

Know your 60s and 70s
Revisado: 02-26-18
Would you consider the audio edition of Point to Point Navigation to be better than the print version?
Yes.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Any of Vidal's novels.
Have you listened to any of Gore Vidal’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes. This is Vidal near the end of his life and you can feel the satisfaction, and sadness simultaneously, in various parts of the book.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
"I could care less."
Any additional comments?
Vidal talks a lot about playwrights and other notable figures from the 60s and 70s. I had to pause and Google many of the people he mentioned.

Historia
Noam Chomsky is widely regarded as the most influential thinker of our time, but never before has he devoted a major book to one topic: income inequality. Requiem for the American Dream is not an essay collection but an entire work of some 70,000 words, based on four years of interviews with Chomsky by the editors. It is a book that makes Chomsky's breadth and depth accessible and at the same time gives us his most powerful political ideas with unprecedented, breathtaking directness.

Robert Reich's film "Inequality for All"
Have you listened to any of Donald Corren’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not, but have re listened to this book and feel the energy in his voice. Very good given the content.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I guess you could say this book made me a little angry. Not at the content, but at the situation the country is in.

Women are greatly highlighted in this book
Revisado: 02-26-18
If you could sum up My Own Words in three words, what would they be?
Women are awesome
What did you like best about this story?
The speeches that RBG gives are exceptional. She mentions many past justices and the respect she has for all of them.
Which character – as performed by Linda Lavin – was your favorite?
RBG
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The speech RBG gives about her husband. That was something special.
Any additional comments?
RBG champions the efforts of equality in this book. I would say about 80% of the book highlights the efforts women have made over the past 50 years to improve our society. She does a great job in speeches giving credit to other justices.

Don't let the word "liberal" scare you
Revisado: 02-26-18
What did you love best about The Once and Future Liberal?
Lilla sheds light on the need for compromise, but also the need for a review of history and civics.
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
The "once liberal" side of the equation was very interesting. You dive into the south and the Voting Rights Act. Great content of the events from presidents during that time.
What about Charles Constant’s performance did you like?
Easy to understand and provided changes in tone when necessary.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There was so much I wanted to talk about with my friends (both dem and rep.)
Any additional comments?

Historia
Democracies can die with a coup d'état - or they can die slowly. This happens most deceptively when in piecemeal fashion, with the election of an authoritarian leader, the abuse of governmental power and the complete repression of opposition. All three steps are being taken around the world - not least with the election of Donald Trump - and we must all understand how we can stop them.

What other book might you compare How Democracies Die to and why?
Saving Capitalism
Which scene was your favorite?
The comparisons to Latin American democracies
What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?
Power corrupts, but absolute power corrupts absolutely. Presidents who stay in power too long refuse to give up control and create dictatorships.

The Common Good

Historia
Robert B. Reich makes a powerful case for the expansion of America’s moral imagination. Rooting his argument in common sense and everyday reality, he demonstrates that a common good constitutes the very essence of any society or nation. Societies, he says, undergo virtuous cycles that reinforce the common good as well as vicious cycles that undermine it, one of which America has been experiencing for the past five decades. This process can and must be reversed.

This book was great. Had moments where I thought I was listening to Inequality for All and Saving Capitalism. When it comes to sound progressive thought, Reich is the best. Highly recommend this book.
