Historia
Twenty-four-year-old British painter Cleo has escaped from England to New York and is still finding her place in the sleepless city when, a few months before her student visa ends, she meets Frank. Twenty years older and a self-made success, Frank’s life is full of all the excesses Cleo’s lacks. He offers her the chance to be happy, the freedom to paint and the opportunity to apply for a green card. But their impulsive marriage irreversibly changes both their lives and the lives of those close to them, in ways they never could’ve predicted.

Not for me
Revisado: 05-08-24
I think I read somewhere this is called stream of consciousness writing? It’s not for me. There were several chapters and POVs that could have been omitted. Some story lines are wrapped up in just a few sentences while the author spent thousands of words describing a tuna sandwich at a cafeteria.
This book tried way too hard for me. I will say it captured life’s messiness really well. Mental illness and addiction are represented in a believable way. But, despite that, they just were not likable people. They made and a bad decision and it felt impossible to route for them.
I can see why people like this story. It’s not like other girls, but you can see how she’s trying to be different. 2/5

Not for me
Revisado: 07-18-21
If you are looking for an emo teen novel, with a whiney monologue for the first two hours, this will be great for you. I’m two hours into an 8 hour romance and the boys HAVEN’T. EVEN. MET.
I find Cal to be unbelievable. If you have 400k+ followers and an internship in NYC there is no way this 17 year old doesn’t stay. You can’t tell me advertising revenue for ONE sponsor wouldn’t get him and Deb a tiny little efficiency. If they were 15 or 16 I might buy it. But you don’t have your dream career in front of you, and just throw a fit and whine for 2 hours. You. Do. Something. Cal was never going to make it as a journalist. You have to take big risks. He’s an L-7 weenie.
And the other guy…I just met him and have zero interest in him.
This story bored me all the way to aggression. I was expecting so much excitement and drama. And all I got was complaining. 🤷🏻♀️

Unique challenge.
Revisado: 08-03-20
It’s very refreshing to read a romance novel that has other challenges than just the usual breakup. There was still conflict, and it wasn’t easy for our couple to be together. They faced real challenges without the usual cut and run trope of romance.
This is the second book by this author that I have read and she handles the conflict of the story very well. Not just falling into the pit of let’s have them breakup. She puts though into the conflict and there is plenary of foreshadowing that makes the angst make sense.
Ravi was so lovable and Tristian breaking out of his shell was adorable. This is the exact couple we all route for. They are so different and yet so in love that you can’t help but admire how they work together to navigate those differences.
