Heavy on diagnosis light on cure
Revisado: 06-25-22
I would have requested a refund for this title if I hadn't waited over 365 days to start listening to it.
The majority of this book talks about how to identify emotionally immature parents and how that affects their children. The subtitle of this book is "How to Heal from Distant, Rejecting, or Self-Involved Parents" and there is very little offered in this department. Especially in comparison to the amount of time spent on the former topics. I wouldn't recommend this book and I wish I could get my credit back for it.

Fantastic story that will make you think
Revisado: 10-08-21
This book is great on so many different levels that it is hard to review. There are so many stories intertwined covering the full range of emotions. And in each story you are either the therapist or you are the patient. It pulls the curtain back on therapy, what it might do for you and what the therapist is feeling. But it's not in any way a self help book. It's such a unique book, with a fantastic reading performance and I completely recommend it without hesitation.

Historia
If your funny older sister were the former deputy chief of staff to President Barack Obama, her behind-the-scenes political memoir would sound something like this. Who Thought This Was a Good Idea? is an intimate and admiring portrait of a president, a candid book of advice for young women, and a promising debut from a savvy political star.

Gratuitous profanity
Revisado: 09-07-21
I'm far far far from being a prude. In fact I probably have an overly foul mouth myself. But this author's gratuitous use of profanity really tarnishes the book. Curse words carry a lot more gravitas in books when used sparingly. How many people read this book before it was published? Couldn't any of them convince her to cut back? Blech.

Historia
You'd know Fred Stoller if you saw him. He has appeared on practically every great sitcom you've ever seen - Everybody Loves Raymond, Friends, and Murphy Brown just to name a few. But he has never been a regular on a series, always the guest star. He longs to find a showbiz home. Instead, he is a television foster child, shuttling from show to show in the vain hope that one will finally agree to keep him.

Not sure what the point of this is
Revisado: 01-25-21
This is like excerpts from the audio book called Maybe We'll Have You Back by the same author. Not sure why a book of excerpts is necessary since the original book isn't that long. But at least the author reads this one instead of a ghost reader who does the full book. This isn't bad, but both are free on Audible so just listen to the full version which I thought was excellent.

Historia
Fred Stoller has played the annoying schnook in just about every sitcom you’ve seen on TV - Friends, Everybody Loves Raymond, Scrubs, Hannah Montana, My Name Is Earl - and was even a staff writer for Seinfeld, but he’s never found a solid gig. When it comes to Hollywood, it’s a case of always the bridesmaid and never the bride, except in his case he’s always the snarky waiter, the mopey cousin, or Man Number Two.

Gret book with disappointing narration
Revisado: 01-22-21
The content of this book is great, I loved all the stories and the insider perspective. What I didn't like is the narration. Listening to this at 1.0x speed is arduous. The narration is so slooooow. I had to jack the speed way up to get the cadence to sound normal. But there was a shocking ending to this book... If Barack Obama can narate his own book (and he's not an actor) then one would assume Fred Stoller isn't too much of a hot shot to read his own audible book too. The whole time I was listening to the book I was deceived into thinking it was Fred reading the book but at the end I was shocked to hear it is harrated by Ray Chase? I've never had a bigger WTF moment since I started listening to Audible.
And if you're going to have someone else read it, it should be someone more barable than Ray Chase.
Anyway, I still recommend this book even with Ray Chase reading it but I recommend you crank up the speed.
