Historia
For Lt. Commander Colin Maclntyre, it began as a routine training flight over the moon. For Dahak, a self-aware Imperial battleship, it began millennia ago when that powerful artificial intelligence underwent a mutiny in the face of the enemy. The mutiny was never resolved - Dahak was forced to maroon not just the mutineers but the entire crew on prehistoric Earth.

Excellent story mared by terrible Reader
Revisado: 01-02-25
i love this book, it's one of my personal favorites and an excellent SciFi adventure. But the reader puts in no effort, much to the detriment of the book. Words, even common ones like Canada, are constantly mispronounced. As this is a recording there's really no excuse. He could have fixed them easily with only a little effort. But he didn't, because he clearly doesn't respect the source material, and that is a great shame.

love to see the old favorites in some new scenes, and how they all end up in the same scene

Historia
On the outside, Dina Demille is the epitome of normal. She runs a quaint Victorian Bed and Breakfast in a small Texas town, owns a Shih Tzu named Beast, and is a perfect neighbor, whose biggest problem should be what to serve her guests for breakfast. But Dina is...different: Her broom is a deadly weapon; her Inn is magic and thinks for itself. Meant to be a lodging for otherworldly visitors, the only permanent guest is a retired Galactic aristocrat who can’t leave the grounds because she’s responsible for the deaths of millions and someone might shoot her on sight.

Historia
Hundreds of years ago, the last humans on Earth boarded the Exodus Fleet in search of a new home among the stars. After centuries spent wandering empty space, their descendants were eventually accepted by the well-established species that govern the Milky Way. But that was long ago. Today, the Exodus Fleet is a living relic, the birthplace of many, yet a place few outsiders have ever visited. As many Exodans leave for alien cities or terrestrial colonies, those who remain are left to ponder their own lives and futures.

These stories of "ordinary life" in a fantastic sci-fi setting are so comforting. The stories are so human.

Cozy SciFi
Revisado: 07-21-24
I'm a huge fan of Chambers other work and this story was exactly what I would expect from a cozy SciFi. It's the scenic route where most of the plot is just there to drive character development. No one is saving the world, the stakes are local and light. It's well written and pleasant.

Historia
When Monster Hunter International's top hunter, Owen Zastava Pitt, was given a tip about some hunters who had gone missing in action, he didn't realize their rescue mission would snowball into the single biggest operation in MHI's history. Their men are being held prisoner in a horrific nightmare dimension, and the only way to reach them is through the radioactive ruins of a monster-infested war zone. As if that wasn't bad enough, it's also the home base of the powerful creature behind the devastating attacks on the Last Dragon and Copper Lake.

Just Plain Bad
Revisado: 06-27-24
Easily Correia's worst work, with a nonsensical plot, hardly any action (yes, really) and cringing prose. It doesn't help that the reader speaks every line with a smugness that makes the cringe even more unbearable. I've read worse books by far, but Larry knows better. This was disappointing

Starswarm is Amazing. The Reader is not
Revisado: 02-08-24
One of my favorite Scifi stories made barely tolerable by a reader fond of awkward pauses, poor editing, and some truly awful attempts at various accents.
Read this book, it's wonderful, but skip the audio format.

Historia
For millennia, the Shaa have subjugated the universe, forcing the myriad sentient races to bow to their joyless tyranny. But the Shaa will soon be no more. The Dread Empire is in its rapidly fading twilight, and with its impending fall comes the promise of a new galactic order...and bloody chaos. A young Terran naval officer marked by his lowly birth, Lt. Gareth Martinez is the first to recognize the insidious plot of the Naxid - the powerful, warlike insectoid society that was enslaved before all others - to replace the masters’ despotic rule with their own.

Too Slow and No Payoff
Revisado: 12-17-23
This book promises an action-packed LITRPG. What it delivers are long internal monologues about the troubles of a teenage girl. The action is largely glossed over, the "twist" is obvious from chapter 2, and in the end we don't even get a payoff. Nothing is resolved in this wet-noodle of a climax.
The performance is fine, but the book has many male characters and the reader can only do two male voices. These grow VERY old by the end.
In summary, I cannot recommend this book to anyone who isn't themselves a 16 year old gamer girl.
