Historia
Centuries on, what the Reformation was and what it accomplished remain deeply contentious. Peter Marshall's sweeping new history argues that 16th-century England was a society neither desperate for nor allergic to change, but one open to ideas of "reform" in various competing guises. This engaging history reveals what was really at stake in the overthrow of Catholic culture and the reshaping of the English Church.

Good but Dry
Revisado: 03-31-21
This was a well written and well researched book, but I think for anyone without an intense interest in the subject or an academic motivation it might be dry and a long read. I wanted an overview of the English Reformation and this book provided that but it was not as enjoyable and I didn’t get as much out of it as I hoped.

What Heaven is for Real did for near-death experiences, Miracles does for the miraculous - provides undeniably compelling evidence that there's something real to be reckoned with, whatever one has thought of this topic before. It provides a wide range of real stories of the miraculous and will engage the listener in the serious discussion that this fascinating and rich subject deserves.

So Encouraging
Revisado: 09-18-19
I deeply appreciate his methodology. Only people he knows personally and only stories he vetted. Along with him already being a respected and credible author, these details allowed a “believing but naturally skeptical” person really enjoy and engage with these stories. Very well written and very encouraging to me personally.

Not Many Practical Tips - Charismatic Perspective
Revisado: 06-03-19
This short book didn't have that many practical tips on teaching the Bible, so those who are looking for that kind of resource should look elsewhere. Also potential purchasers should be aware that this book is written from a charismatic doctrinal perspective. If you are looking for an overview of a charismatic and "spirit-led" approach to teaching scripture then you might find some helpful tips here.

Well Done Book - WRONG Modern Pronunciation
Revisado: 04-20-19
I have really enjoyed Dr. Van Pelt's Hebrew Textbook and materials and am excited about the new edition. While this audiobook was well done, I have two significant complaints.
1) THE MODERN HEBREW PRONUNCIATION IS WRONG - I don't know where they get their pronunciations or how they define "modern" but if you go online and listen to modern Israeli's pronounce their words it can be very different. This is an "Americanized/Anglicized" modern pronunciation that would sound wrong to a native speaker (sometimes significantly). For example, the pronunciation of "Resh" is very different than the English "R". I decided to learn the modern Hebrew pronunciation in my studies so as to be partially understandable to a modern speaker and was sad to have to rely on other materials after purchasing this to get the proper pronunciation. I just feel like there is no excuse for this. They should have used a native speaker.
2) NO REPETITION ABILITY - This is more a format complaint than a quality complaint. While the organization and chapters of the book is solid and you can easily see chapter titles and sections, you cannot really set an audiobook for repeat if you want to listen to a chapter over and over for memorization. Because of this, it should be offered on an mp3/CD format as well and not just audiobook. (I checked and as of this writing it is not available).
So, in summary, the audiobook quality is great, it has good organization/chapter breakdowns, and the traditional pronunciation has no issues, but I don't understand how they could get the modern pronunciation so wrong.

OK. Most is Common Sense. See Better Resources.
Revisado: 04-06-19
This book was just OK. If you've had a class on homiletics you won't find much new. A lot is common sense. I found it to be very similar to "Preaching Nuts and Bolts" but I found that book more practical. This book did have some interesting thoughts on time management.

Good but basic and limited
Revisado: 12-09-18
Good content delivered from a scholarly and conservative perspective. Fairly basic overview. Anyone who has taken a class in biblical interpretation will be familiar with most of the content. This class does not detail how to preach or teach the Bible, but only how to interpret and apply with an emphasis on interpretation.

Historia
Robert Fagles brings the energy of contemporary language of this 2,700-year-old epic, while maintaining the drive and metric music of Homer's poetry, as well as the impact and nuance of Homer's mesmerizing repeated phrases.
As a scholar, Fagles praises Homer's directness and simplicity, the breadth of his imagination, and the power of his song. As a translator, he brilliantly captures these very qualities.

Great Translation! Just know what you are getting.
Revisado: 07-01-17
An excellent performance with an excellent translation. This translation by Fagles is a more modern and easy to understand translation, but one that also stays close to the original text. It is amazing how well much of the story flows and is easy to listen with this good translation, even though it is thousands of years old. Don't, of course, expect a modern novel either. There is some abridgement with brief, helpful explanations when it occurs, which I personally feel is sad. I, like many others, would totally have paid for and listen to an unabridged version of this great translation, but the most essential parts of the story are still retained. However, if you are familiar with the general story of the Trojan war, there are some things you should probably know beforehand about the story, which I mention below. SPOlLER ALERT! The Illiad poem does not actually tell the whole story of the Trojan war, and does not include a thorough account of the start of the war as well as much account of the end of the war. The story ends with the funeral of Hector and does not detail the famous Trojan Horse, the sacking of Troy, or the dramatic death of Achilles, which is all told elsewhere. However this is still an amazing, worthwhile, and historic listen!

Historia
Dr. R.C. Sproul has often asked unbelievers who deny their need for a Savior, "What do you do with your guilt?" The question often breaks through sinful complacency, because feelings of guilt over sin are common. Unbelievers may ignore their sense of guilt, rationalize it, or desensitize it, but it is there. It points to the fact that all people are objectively guilty before God. So what must we do with our guilt?

A Good Biblical Discussion on Guilt
Revisado: 08-06-15
This is an interesting read about the nature of guilt and how the Christian faith teaches us to respond. Dr. R. C. Sproul is a gifted teacher and respected theologian and I always appreciate his thoughts.
In this book he discusses the nature and reality of guilt according to the Bible and our experience. He also discusses how people usually handle guilt, including being under-guilty, over-guilty, and different ways people try to resolve their guilt. Finally he talks about how the Bible teaches us to deal with guilt.
I personally especially appreciated that last section where he distinguishes healthy and unhealthy types of guilt and shows how personal and emotional freedom from guilt comes through the full forgiveness offered by Jesus Christ.

A Thorough Review of the Topic of Will
Revisado: 08-06-15
This short little book covers a lot of ground. Dr. R. C. Sproul is a gifted teacher and I always appreciate what he has to say.
This book starts by covering the different categories of God's will, which helps us understand the Bible and life situations better when it comes to finding God's will. He then discusses the nature of free will and what it means for humans to have free will. Finally the book ends with practical chapters on finding God's will when deciding on what you do for work and finding God's will in choosing if to marry/who to marry.

A Wonderful Reading of a Wonderful Classic
Revisado: 03-17-15
This is a great book and a great reading. The story might be a little slow for those who like an action packed story, but for those just expecting a historical romance and family tale. I am sure you will enjoy it.
The reader Emma Messenger is amazing! I felt like I was listening to a Broadway performance. The extents she took her voice acting to were tremendous and really helped differentiate the characters and enliven the story.
