White noise. No Spanish.
Revisado: 11-17-18
Waste of time. Misleading title. Should not say Spanish in it. It's a guy telling you that you can learn Spanish then an hour of white noise.

Too much speculative dialog for a nonfiction story
Revisado: 10-11-16
I listened to over half of it and could never get interested. I dont care to listen to fiction. I'd rather read it. I really like the narrator but faking a Spanish accent in the dialog was unnecessary and only added to my annoyance of all the dialog. The author had several runs of delivering interesting facts of the story then the main character would begin bantering with someone. This broke up the flow and I'd lose interest.
If you like listening to fiction this will be a fine listen. I'd rather read dialog myself.

Historia
Redefining our traditional understanding of the New Deal, Fear Itself finally examines this pivotal American era through a sweeping international lens that juxtaposes a struggling democracy with enticing ideologies like Fascism and Communism. Ira Katznelson, "a towering figure in the study of American and European history" (Cornel West), boldly asserts that, during the 1930s and 1940s, American democracy was rescued yet distorted by a unified band of southern lawmakers who safeguarded racial segregation as they built a new national state to manage capitalism and assert global power.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 10-06-16
I expected a book detailing Franklin Roosevelt and the turn toward Socialism. What I got was that and over half the book detailing how mostly Southern Democrats created Jim Crow laws. I was confused by most of these relations by the author to New Deal Liberalism, but it was interesting. I'd like a part two from the author on how the Southern states turned heavily Republican and why blacks now vote mostly Democrat when the Democrats were making it so difficult for them to work and vote for so long.
The author also spends a lot of time paralleling European Communism, Facism and Socialism with Franklin's New Deal and WWII. He spends much too much time on nuclear weapons and the fallout. I didn't understand it's relation to the book title. Maybe I'm not paying enough attention but this could have and should have been three short good books on their own. The book flow is a little jumpy, but I recommend it. Also, Scott Brick reads so it's hard to go wrong.

Couldn't stop listening
Revisado: 09-18-16
I didn't here much bias. However, I didn't like some things the author had to say, but her opinion which to her credit, she doesn't voice much. When she seems to be going off track she reels you back in with a secret program to this or that. I'm not going to spoil anything here. iIt's a good, entertaining and insightful listen. Near the end is pretty scary when learning about assumed and unclassified technology she can't be certain exists. She is honest about her revelations being unclassified, but I can't think of a better place to get that information than this book.

A must read
Revisado: 08-09-16
From the beginning it held my interest explaining the history of snack foods and why they are purposfuly addictive. A fair assessment in the efforts of manufacturers attempt at healthier snacks vs profit. Very eye opening even to a health conscience person. I recommend to anyone who believes there is such thing as healthy chips.

Historia
North Korea is like no other tyranny on Earth. Its citizens are told their home is the greatest nation in the world, and Big Brother is always watching. It is Orwell's 1984 made reality. Huge factories with no staff or electricity, hospitals with no patients, uniformed child soldiers, and the world-famous and eerily empty DMZ - the Demilitarized Zone, where North Korea ends and South Korea begins - are all framed by a relentless flow of regime propaganda from omnipresent loudspeakers. Free speech is an illusion: one word out of line, and the gulag awaits.

Very Interesting
Revisado: 07-08-16
It's all very interesting and hard to believe. I'm going to chose to believe because of other stories coming out of North Korea as well as the author repeating some that I am aware of from documentaries and other books. The author is funny, but his dry humor leaves me wondering if some of his experiences in North Korea are true or sarcasm. I'm not sure there is a better book on North Korea. It covers his time there and North Korea history when it's relevant rather than a long boring lead up to what North Korea is like today. I highly recommend.

Historia
In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world. Lansing describes how the men survived a 1,000-mile voyage in an open boat across the stormiest ocean on the globe and an overland trek through forbidding glaciers and mountains.

Amazing survival story
Revisado: 05-09-16
Loved this book. I read the paperback then bought the audio book. Just as well either way. Narrator is perfect for the book. The leadership, do or die desicions, food rationing and general survival skills alone kept me interested. The journey from water to ice, to island, to water, to mountains and the will to live are intriguing.
Most memorable part is hard to pin down but probably the amputation.

Manipulation in a good way
Revisado: 04-14-16
Most of the steps will help you be a better person. A lot of the tips are an effort to get a person to like you or agree with you. Seems manipulative but it's about being agreeable and pleasant to others. The narrator or maybe just the text comes across a little arrogant at time. It's a good book though. I recommend.

Interesting but often sounds like an advertisement
Revisado: 08-12-15
Elon Musk's story is interesting but the book too often sounded like a promotion for his companies. It does contain the lowlights of his companies and some not so friendly storys about him but overall the book is inspiring. I recommend it to any business professional.
