Fast paced action and very accurate in details
Revisado: 09-09-23
Very entertaining. The author must be a local to Washington DC metro area, all the places and locations are correct and very accurately described. When they meet for drinks to celebrate it feels like Rock Bottom in Bethesda or one of Adam’s Morgan pubs. And the scotch, of course. And Starbucks egg whites, yumm! The rest of the story is just a great read, with many ER emergencies and legal puzzles. The characters are well developed, a bit too extreme sometimes but it just adds to the overall adventurous atmosphere. Awesome!

A great course for animal enthusiasts
Revisado: 09-01-23
Very informative and fun. The lecturer is excellent at his job, he loves it and can bring this to the audience. It is easy to follow and to fill some gaps when visual aids are missing, because of plenty of audio information and clues. Meeting other professionals makes the classes even more entertaining. Our animal fellows become alive and vibrant characters in this great course.

Historia
"See for yourself!" was the clarion call of the 1600s. Natural philosophers threw off the yoke of ancient authority, peered at nature with microscopes and telescopes, and ignited the scientific revolution. Artists investigated nature with lenses and created paintings filled with realistic effects of light and shadow. The hub of this optical innovation was the small Dutch city of Delft.

Very unusual perspective on history of science and art. Combining the two subjects together makes this book a spectacular and fascinating read, just as a painter with a microbiologist elusive friendship is. The historical period they lived in looks like a rainbow of beautiful colors, all shimmering in a different light - depending on the angle of a sight. Curious discoveries are waiting for a listener at each new chapter. Beautifully written and well performed.

Historia
What is it like to be a dog? A bat? Or a dolphin? To find out, neuroscientist Gregory Berns and his team began with a radical step: they taught dogs to go into an MRI scanner - completely awake. They discovered what makes dogs individuals with varying capacities for self-control, different value systems, and a complex understanding of human speech. And dogs were just the beginning. In What It's Like to Be a Dog, Berns explores the fascinating inner lives of wild animals from dolphins and sea lions to the extinct Tasmanian tiger.

Heartfelt and intelligent
Revisado: 08-12-23
This book is a treasure. I’ve read it twice, a paperback and on Audible. It stays with you after you finished reading, and makes you think and see animals in a different light than before. For me, it was very educating and engaging because of described imaging approaches and psychological techniques applied to study animal mind. I didn’t know that even a diseased brain can be imaged using MRI, and important information learned. Also because of the fascinating stories, each single animal has a personality. Gregory Berns is the second best book after James Herriot, I have read. Okay, maybe shared the prize with Gerald Durrell.

Unforgettable adventure
Revisado: 07-25-23
This book is one of the best if not the best in the sequel, so far. It is very realistic and detailed on caving and rock climbing experience. That makes it not only unputdownable read but absolutely irresistible to anyone who is into this spots or even just tried it. The characters also continue to grow and develop personally. It is funny and sharp as always, and better narrated this time. All thumbs up - just not if you are holding a rope!

Sleep is the subject of intense scientific debate among biologists and neuroscientists. Why must we spend about one-third of our lives asleep? What exactly is sleep? Why does a lack of sleep impair our cognitive abilities and leave us vulnerable to a host of medical issues ranging from obesity to reduced resistance to infectious disease?

More on the mechanisms please!
Revisado: 07-21-23
The course was very fascinating, engaging and entertaining for me as a non-neurobiologist. I loved the topics of the lessons, the subjects of the studies and their stories. Cellular and molecular players were touched too, like ion channels and neurotransmitters, in easy to follow lessons. But I was left puzzled and eager for mechanisms behind the processes described. Physiological processes of sleep, insomnia, sleep disorders and sleeping aids need more exploration and explanation. Perhaps, in the next set of lectures? Can’t wait, because the author seems to be a great scientist who enjoys his subject and his audience alike.

Mindful, intelligent, and a great story
Revisado: 07-07-23
Enjoyed the book very much. It combines easy to follow, engaging life stories of smart and plain, kind and evil persons who all try to make their way through this world and search for invisible ones. In the process, they face a big question, who wins the battle for children minds? The main heroine’s life is a dark place at times. But she is brave and intelligent, and will surely find the way, solving mind-bending riddles in between simple acts of kindness. Because at the end, there is always hope for young and old alike if they connect, accept each others help and love. It seemed to me, the narrator did a great job delivering the message. Or maybe there is no single message or simple answers, just the stories and puzzles, which is fine too.
