Historia
Tom Felton’s adolescence was anything but ordinary. His early rise to fame in beloved films like The Borrowers catapulted him into the limelight, but nothing could prepare him for what was to come after he landed the iconic role of the Draco Malfoy, the bleached blonde villain of the Harry Potter movies. For the next ten years, he was at the center of a huge pop culture phenomenon and yet, in between filming, he would go back to being a normal teenager trying to fit into a normal school. Speaking with great candor and his signature humor, Tom shares his experience.

Loved it...just loved.

I've never been a huge Draco fan, but I love all things HO and after listening to this thoughtful and thought provoking book, I'm a huge Tom Felton fan. I will be cheering on Tom from now on. He was so honest and vulnerable during his story telling and he made it seem if he was telling me the stories of his life next to me. I will definitely be listening again. Thank you, Tom, for your words of honesty and making some of us feel like we aren't alone.

Historia
In the early 2000s, Adrian Hong was a soft-spoken Yale undergraduate looking for his place in the world. After reading a harrowing account of life inside North Korea, he realized he had found a cause so pressing that he was ready to devote his life to it. Hong journeyed to China, outwitting Chinese security services as he helped ferry asylum-seeking North Korean escapees to safety. The Rebel and the Kingdom is an exhilarating account of a man who turns his back on the status quo—to instead live boldly by his principles.

I've read and listened to dozens of books about North Korea and this has been one of my top three. So many new tidbits of information that Ive never heard before and I just was swept away by Adrien's story. It was interesting, fascinating and heartbreaking. I will probably listen to it again soon.

Historia
Vera Wong is a lonely little old lady—ah, lady of a certain age—who lives above her forgotten tea shop in the middle of San Francisco’s Chinatown. Despite living alone, Vera is not needy, oh no. She likes nothing more than sipping on a good cup of Wulong and doing some healthy detective work on the Internet about what her Gen-Z son is up to. Then one morning, Vera trudges downstairs to find a curious thing—a dead man in the middle of her tea shop.

Loved the story & the narrator!

Best mystery book I've read in ages! I so enjoyed the characters, especially the main character and her relationships with the others. I enjoyed the way the author describes all the delicious sounding teas and food she cooks for everyone.

Historia
An excellent student from a poor, traditional family in Seoul, the narrator has absorbed the same message her whole life: Only a boy can provide the family with dignity and wealth. Not her. Not her three sisters. Receiving approval only for uncomplaining sacrifice, she has resolved to take on her family’s troubles. She is a good girl. And she knows what good girls must do.

Beautifully heartbreaking

I enjoyed this as much as one could be expected too with such a pensive and sorrow-filled ending...but I appreciated the ending very much because it seemed like the exact finale that made the most sense to me, although it was unexpected.

Every day, while her immigrant parents clean the rooms, 10-year-old Mia manages the front desk of the Calivista Motel and tends to its guests. Number two: Her parents hide immigrants. And if the mean motel owner, Mr. Yao, finds out they've been letting them stay in the empty rooms for free, the Tangs will be doomed. Number three: She wants to be a writer. But how can she when her mom thinks she should stick to math because English is not her first language?

Such a touching, lovely story.
Revisado: 09-12-23
I'm a 43 year old homeschooling mom and I bought this book to listen to for myself and because I was intrigued by the synopsis and I try to include diverse books in my kids' education. My grandparents were immigrants and I thought about how much they did struggle (in the same and different ways) so often during listening. It made me tear up several times and I can't wait for my kids to listen to it. My 13 & 8 year olds will especially enjoy it. Thankful to the author for sharing her story.
