As someone with AS, I have found it EXTREMELY difficult to get through this audiobook because of the narrator. Rachel Perry sounds *worse* than one of those robo-voices you hear reading books on YouTube. Her robotic, singsong voice really gets on my AS nerves (I have misophonia, and as a musician I am very sensitive to sounds). She sounds utterly artificial, and often I found myself wondering if she is actually a real person or an automated computer voice.

That said, I found the information *extremely* valuable, validating, and life-changing. Through listening to this and other ASD books I know 100% that I have what used to be called Asperger's, now called high-functioning autism or ASD. Suddenly my whole life makes sense! Up until now, I could never figure out why I was like this or that, why I did these weird things, why so much of my life and my quirks made no sense, despite years of intense self-scrutiny and not a few failed attempts at working with a therapist or counselor. Now I know why!

My only real complaint about the material is that the author switches audiences: one minute she's talking to the person with AS; the next she's talking to the "employer or advocate of a person with AS." Quite frankly, I doubt many employers will take the time to read/listen to this or any book on AS, and if they do, the book should be presented from that viewpoint. As someone with AS, I would have appreciated the focus remaining on my situation and what I can do about it, not switching to a different audience. For me personally, this just poured salt in the wound that my own employer likely will not read this book, however desperate I am for them to understand my disorder. (I'm not asking for the moon; just understanding when I don't want to sit in the middle of the crowd at meetings but instead prefer to situate myself at the fringe, where I don't feel so trapped, etc.)

Some people have criticized Rudy Simone for a lack of "scientific evidence," but as far as I know, she has not positioned any of her books as scientific treatises. I am also very much enjoying her book "Aspergirls," which is yet more validation that I have AS. I don't need a bunch of confirmation-biased scientific studies to tell me I have ASD: much more valuable is the validation of hearing the voices of others who have it, and whose experiences are exactly like mine.

If you have, or suspect you have, ASD, this book may prove of tremendous value for you. My husband has listened to it and says it helps him to understand me so much better -- and that, in itself, is priceless.

I just wish they had chosen *someone else* to read this book for the audiobook recording. It seems they picked the worst possible person on the planet to deliver a performance meant for people with Asperger's/ASD.

This is such an amazing book on the subject of narcissistic mothers, it should be required reading. Danu Morrigan does a wonderful job as both author and narrator: it feels like sitting across from a friend who truly gets what you're going through and what you've been through. Her EFT scripts are FANTASTIC - and I say this as someone who has been practicing EFT for nearly 20 years.

For anyone who has survived a narcissistic mother, this book should absolutely be one to read and read again (or listen to over and over, for the audiobook). I also have the Kindle version so I could highlight especially notable parts, of which there are many.

Even if you've heard or read other books on the subject, get this one as well! It's truly wonderful and helpful more than words can say.

Excellent, excellent book. So many insights and fantastic information to counter the negative body image messages we're bombarded with every day. After listening to The F*ck It Diet by Caroline Dooner four times in a row (it's that good!) I wanted more, and that's when I found this one. Megan speaks for those of us who've struggled with our weight and body image, and she offers courage to step out of those shackles and reclaim our freedom. I really can't say enough good things about this awesome book!

So glad the author read the book herself - it just isn't the same when some paid actor dramatize it, especially when it's such a personal and sensitive subject. Megan Jayne Crabbe is perfect reading get book for the audiobook. Loved it, loved it, loved it!

Going to be listening to this one many, many times to really let the messages sink in. I am fine exactly as I am! Thank you, Megan - you rock!!

Such a powerful book! This should be required reading/listening in school, the subject is so important, and this particular book presents it in such a clear-cut, organized way. I had so many jaw-dropping epiphanies while listening - things I've been seeking the answers to my entire life. Dana Morningstar does an excellent job narrating, making it feel as if she's sitting across from you having a heartfelt conversation. BUY THIS BOOK! It will absolutely change your life for the better.

This book offers an excellent introduction to Sensory Processing Disorder. I learned a number of sensitivities I wasn't aware were connected, things I've struggled with all my life that I thought were "just me being weird." Like my aversion to showers and baths, and difficulties with seatbelts.

It would be helpful if this were longer, and offered more ways to cope. The description mentioned these would be included, but it was barely touched upon.

The narrator is rather annoying, as every time he says "Sensory Processing Disorder" he sounds condescending.... As if he thinks the disorder is a joke, or "all in our heads." It's probably just the way narrators are trained to read these audiobooks, but I found it offensive and irritating, especially as a sufferer of SPD. He seemed very disconnected from the subject matter.

Overall, a worthwhile book, at least as a start.

What did you love best about Hear Your Body Whisper?

THIS REVIEW IS BY SEBASTIAN'S WIFE (we share an account)

I've only just started reading the Kindle version and wanted the audiobook so I can listen at work. However, the narrator is ANNOYING -- her B's sound like P's with a lot of pop noise, which is extremely irritating if you have Misophonia and/or Sensory Processing Disorder. She also sounds overdramatic in her presentation, too in-your-face personal...yuck!!! I really can't listen to her. I'm going to just read the Kindle book and leave the audiobook for my husband to listen to. (He's not as sensitive to sounds as I am.)

Would you be willing to try another one of Marnye Young’s performances?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!! The only thing that would be worse would be if she had a whistling S-noise, which is beyond excruciating, like nails on a chalkboard. But this comes close.

Any additional comments?

The content of this book, so far, seems excellent, and I'm super excited to put these techniques into practice. I just WISH they'd chosen a different narrator...the narrator can make or break an audiobook, and this one totally breaks it for me. Not just the annoying sounds, but her too-intimate, right-up-in-your-face presentation that feels like gorging on marshmallow fluff. Ugh, makes me feel ill.

Seriously life-changing magic... Love Sarah Knight and her frankness, openness, and no-fucks-given approach done on just the right way. So glad she read this herself - treat yourself to Sarah's unique humor and delivery, which couldn't have been done by anyone else.

If you want to stop getting your panties in a wad over stupid shit, GET THIS BOOK, NOW! You'll be so glad you did!

What made the experience of listening to The Gabriel Method the most enjoyable?

NOTE: REVIEW BY KAREN KORWAL, SEBASTIAN KORWAL'S WIFE

The content was enjoyable, but NOT the narrator. I dislike "trained voiceover" narrators, as they always sound pretentious and overdone. Certainly true for this one. Jon Gabriel's voice is much better to read his own material. The content is excellent, though, and his method does work!

What didn’t you like about Jeffrey Kafer’s performance?

Pretentious, stagey, disconnected from the material (I didn't believe for a second that any of this happened to him -- which it didn't, but he's "playing" the role of Jon Gabriel, very unconvincingly), quite annoying. I also very much dislike the "vocal fry" in his voice. (Google if you don't know what that is.)

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I appreciated the story of Jesse the cat, which demonstrated how our bodies respond to external threats by putting on fat or becoming lean. Very memorable.

Any additional comments?

Jon Gabriel has other materials, which I highly recommend, especially "Visualization for Weight Loss." That one has a lot of bonus materials, and the Evening Visualization mp3 is super effective. Literally listen as you fall asleep, and find yourself slimming down! I still haven't gotten through all of this recording, mainly because the narrator is just so utterly annoying. I'm very sensitive to sound (misophonia) and his voice and delivery style are grating to me. May not bother some people, so be sure to listen to the sample before deciding. Overall, I highly recommend Jon Gabriel's work, just not this recording. Get the physical book instead.

The author claims this is not a religious book, then proceeds to use Bible verses frequently as teaching examples. She compares the prosperity laws to gravity, which is non religious - so should the other laws be.

Also, for me the author's voice was a bit grating (sounded like she needs to clear her throat all the time) and her reading a bit stilted. I couldn't get through the book to know whether her teachings work or not.
