Historia
How did the world arrive at its current, disorienting state of identity politics, and how should the church respond? Historian Carl R. Trueman discusses how influences ranging from traditional institutions to technology and pornography moved modern culture toward an era of "expressive individualism." Investigating philosophies from the Romantics, Nietzsche, Marx, Wilde, Freud, and the New Left, he outlines the history of Western thought to the distinctly sexual direction of present-day identity politics and explains the modern implications of these ideas.

Engaging book, poor audio.
Revisado: 11-19-24
The book itself was not new information for me, but a good historical recapitulation of how we have arrived at this deplorable state. As the author makes claim, "this is a world of identity" signifying that our current society places a significant emphasis on personal identity, where people are largely defined and understood based on their individual characteristics, beliefs, and social affiliations, and last but not least, their sexual orientations. The huge downside for the audio book, is the very annoying, too low audio volume that I can achieve on my high-end ear buds while walking. If you're sitting in a quiet space, it's barely, sufficiently loud enough. When walking there are other noise pollutants that need to be overcome. My only gripe.

Historia
Dr. James Papandrea introduces you to all the major theologians, philosophers, and martyrs of the early Christian church and explains the theological principles that guided the Church from the New Testament era through the apologists, and, ultimately, to the development of the major doctrines. He uniquely situates the teachings of the early Church Fathers against the social and cultural context of the Roman Empire and its relationship to the Church.

Many complaints but none here.
Revisado: 10-16-23
A lot of complaints, the title not reflecting the content. Okay, I’ll give them that claim, I agree to an extent. The writings of many church fathers were discussed, not actually read. The bottom line… I found the book very informative and enjoyable. I will revisit the book on occasion also, not cover to cover, but reread sections. Worth my time.

Historia
St. Thomas Aquinas OP (1224-1274) towers in the history of Christian thought as a mystic, spiritual master, theologian, philosopher, teacher, and preacher. Along with St. Augustine, his synthesis of Christian teaching and exposition of the truth of the Catholic faith remains unsurpassed in Western Christianity.

Very enjoyable.
Revisado: 09-26-23
I found the audio very pleasant and inspiring. I came to this after deeper investigation into Aquinas’ thought and theological perspective, therefore it served as more of a review. There were some new ways of looking at things which the author explained very well. I listed primarily while on my daily walks, therefore I lighter approach during these activities was very appropriate. I listed through the entire presentation twice. It was well with my time.
