Narrator sounds stoned most of the time

The story was overall pretty good, not a genre stand-out, but entertaining enough. The narration kinda killed it for me though - I couldn’t quite place accents, and most of the characters just sounded like stoned surf bums with no enthusiasm for anything whatsoever…wish I had thought to sped it up as someone else recommended!

Great story, poor narration

The male voice actor really grated on my nerves, and the female was just so-so, but I did really enjoy the story. Lots of plot twists I didn’t see coming, though it kept looking predictable.

I’m really enjoying the Bobs. I read a review that said this one was boring and to skip to the third, but I disagree - there’s lots of good stuff going on! Props to the narrator too - that can make or break an audiobook.

Just okay

It kept me entertained, but it wasn’t some amazing story with plot twists I didn’t see coming, I didn’t particularly like any of the characters, and the reading was pretty slow - I had to speed it up. I guess since everyone is older they talk slow?

Love the science backing it

I really enjoyed hearing so much about the different research studies he’s done, as well as that of others. There were lots of interesting nuggets of info I bookmarked along the way. I have a degree in psychology and I struggle with anxiety/OCD, so this book is right up my alley. I was definitely able to apply this to my life and notice my own habit loops - I had before but didn’t quite have a name for what I was doing.

Gave me anxiety

I only made it just over an hour before returning. So much bouncing back and forth, I couldn’t keep up, and found the characters irritating. I hate giving bad reviews, and others seem to like it - just not my cup of tea I guess.

So many amazing aspects

What an incredible book! It weaves together an amazing tale from WWII that left me on the edge of my seat (and I’m not usually into historical fiction), and portrays a realistic family that includes a child with Autism and another with an extremely high IQ - both come with gifts and challenges. Really enjoyed this one and it will stay with me for quite some time!

Trigger warning re: childhood sexual abuse

Yeah I usually don’t get triggered, it’s been so long and I’ve done so much work, but I had to return this. Seems like a cool story otherwise but a bunch of this stuff hit too close to home within the first hour or so - kept waiting for it to pass and get to the rest of the story and it just got worse. This review will probably get buried, but thought I’d say it anyway.

I want to strangle the main character for his naiveté sometimes, but without it, there would be no story. Really unpredictable, because The Pact is unpredictable. Kept me interested for sure.
