A Sad Life with lessons to learn

I really enjoyed the narrator’s accent, it was perfect for the story. The author used such great descriptive language. Demon’s sad life was so full of a view of a life I knew nothing about. He learned so much from his experiences yet stayed sort of innocently pure. There was a happy ending and he discovered his talent!

Understanding Leslie Jones

I liked getting the background information on Leslie’s life. She is a strong, very funny woman. She learned so much and was supported by so many throughout her life. She has a strong, rough brand of humor that cuts to the core of humanity. I hope she is able to relax and rest on her accomplishments because for much of the book she seems very angry and rightfully so!

The Last Thing He Told Me

I was not drawn into this story. Parts of it felt predictable and I was not impressed with some of the details that were supposed to bring it to life. I would not recommend this book to my friends.

Lessons in Chemistry is an extreme tale of the sexism that was and still exists in society today. The progress is slow, but changes and improvements have occurred over time. Many goals are left to be reached. Engaging story.

Just Okay...

Gladwell’s examination of a number of current newsworthy topics was “just okay”, in my opinion. I did not find his discussions as compelling as ones made in his previous books. I had to make myself listen and did not always find his conclusions particularly insightful. Yes, we need to listen to what others have to say more carefully and make fewer assumptions based on appearances.

An intimate experience/not always pleasant

The characters, their experiences, and the settings felt authentic. This author uses language that took me on unusual journeys where I met people in an intimate way that would never happen in my life. Her close-up knowledge of a variety of fringe life styles made me curious about her life experiences. A Harvard-educated, privileged thirty-something white woman captured a piece of street cred in her story about a variety of off beat characters. Her accurate, descriptive language made it very real for me. She presented her characters with respect and I liked that. Fascinating read.
