Historia
Charles Dickens is not feeling the Christmas spirit. His newest book is an utter flop, the critics have turned against him, relatives near and far hound him for money. While his wife plans a lavish holiday party for their ever-expanding family and circle of friends, Dickens has visions of the poor house. But when his publishers try to blackmail him into writing a Christmas book to save them all from financial ruin, he refuses. And a serious bout of writer's block sets in.

My husband and I loved this so much! He rarely listens to books with me but he literally was asking at any quiet moments for me to “play our book”. ❤️ This book was soooo good. Got the time period well, the twists and turns it took were a great surprise! The story within the story was so well done! We fell in love with Dickens and Tim! And sweet Eleanor. Seriously, yall will love this book! ❤️❤️❤️

Historia
The story opens with the apparently accidental drowning of a sixth form student in the Norfolk countryside. As a matter of routine, or so it seems, the case passes across the desk of Detective Sergeant Smith, recently returned to work after an internal investigation into another case that has led to tensions between officers at Kings Lake police headquarters. As an ex-DCI, Smith could have retired by now, and it is clear that some of his superiors wish that he would do so.

I’m in love with DC Smith
Revisado: 05-13-23
There I said it! He is that crusty old funny Dad that we all love who’s full of surprises.
The story was good. Loved that it was so entertaining without cheap attention as others with violence and foul language. True sign of creativity.
But the performance! That’s what really got me! The way he expressed the sarcastic humor of the characters was brilliant! I found myself laughing out loud and grinning at times. So good.
You really will enjoy this book.
I’m so happy to learn this is a series. Onto book 2. Can’t wait!

But Matt was not satisfied that the real murderer had been caught. Over 25 years later, Matt gets a photo in an unmarked envelope. It's of the Gibbet Fen crime scene. And the picture was taken before the murder took place. More photos arrive, relating to the historic murders, as well as intimate pictures of Matt's very secret private life.

I want my money back
Revisado: 05-12-23
I have never ended a book after just 3 chapters. The narration is really bad.
The main character sounds like he’s a dirty cop and his lover sounds like a real “Karen”. I feel that’s due to the narrator honestly.
The storyline sounds good but I can’t go further with the performance. It’s THAT BAD. Like nails on a chalkboard bad.
I never leave bad reviews especially Joy E books. I’ve done like 9 of her audibles and loved them but this one. I can’t.
I have learned my lesson and will listen to the preview before buying as the performance really can mess it up entirely. Even if I love the author, such as this situation. Sorry Joy.

Really good for such a shorter story
Revisado: 05-11-23
This was entertaining and had me frozen waiting for what was next. Not wordy or spending too much time on character development. I liked that!
The performance was good but…well…the guys voice is naturally a sinister type voice so in the first few chapters I thought they were all the bad guys 🤣. The voice isn’t endearing. Sort of Vincent Price voice 🤣. He’d do excellent at scary novels!
Overall, I really enjoyed it and would love a series about Julia!

Ohhhh… cliffhanger! ❤️
Revisado: 05-11-23
I really like this one. It seemed truer to the original first few books style.
I have to admit, without giving it away that I cried and felt sad from that point on. The author dos a good job conveying the heaviness after the sad event. Well done!
Performance was good but I feel the editing was a little choppy.
Can’t wait for more adventures. I’ll miss the team until then.

Revisado: 05-09-23
Series is soooo good but this one went around too many circles and way too many stories going on at one time that I frankly, got annoyed. So much going on that nothing wasn’t developed like previously.
No worries! Onto the next Jackman & Marie adventure!

Revisado: 05-05-23
The series is soooo good but this one seemed. Idk… rushed, maybe???
Pretty predictable and the red herring was not developed much.
If you skipped this one in the series, you would not be missing much.
They all can’t be gold coins right. Don’t skip the others as I truly enjoyed them!

This one creeped me out! Loved it!
Revisado: 04-28-23
I stayed up until 3 am last night, listening. Partly because “just one more chapter” at syndrome and partly because I seriously was creeped out. I avoided taking the dog out before bed because I was was that creeped out lol! I never get like that but this book was THAT good!
I truly enjoyed it. Not sure if it would have been as good as it was had I read it myself or if another performer did it. This performance was well done! The performer is ridiculously consistent throughout all these books. But this one was his best yet.
Can’t wait for more Jackman, Marie cases.
