Loved the book. Amazing detail. Characters I had never heard of before and will research further. I live in Texas and as a graduate of the University of Oklahoma only take issue with the State for a little over four hours on the second Saturday in October.

Corwin was amazing. What I got from this was the same arguments were front and center with politicians in the 1830's as they are in the 2020's. We need statesmen and we have how ever many stooges there are in Washington on both sides of the aisle. But they have been there since 1776. And they were in London, Paris, Berlin, Rome, Tokyo, Moscow, Beijing ad infinitum before then. And probably will be forever.

Norman Corwin was and is an American treasure. His words touch something deep within that brings out the best in those who listen without an agenda of their own. There is no one in the media today who approach his mastery of words. No one who wears his heart so openly for all to see. No one who can inspire.
This work is a great history lesson. I know far more about the building of the Statue of Liberty than I knew before even after visiting her many times.
But it awakened something in me about what she represents. Our "border crisis" is not the people trying to get here for a better life. That was what made the country. The crisis is the way those coming are being used by both sides for political gain. The problem is not along the Rio Grande River. The problem is along the Potomac River.
There was some consideration of placing Lady Liberty next to Washington, D.C. I swear she would have turned away from the place and started walking back to France years ago.

You cannot understand today unless you study yesterday. If you listen to most of the media, it has never been as bad as it is today. Nonsense. The book details struggles by every race on every continent. Most overcame the problems they faced by hard work and initiative. So, instead of listening to the latest snake oil salesman they worked, saved, raised their children and did not wait for the next government handout.

They were his people. He was responsible. No straw polls. No focus groups. Every bump in the road was another chance to improvise. Find the right people. Give them the tools to do the job, Get it done. Be a man who gave his people total confidence in his ability to get it done whatever it happened to be.
In this case, it was yet another terrorist State that felt it could extort millions by kidnapping employees of a wealthy American company. They picked the wrong company from the wrong State led by a true leader.
Do you think that ex-KGB puppet would be pulling all this nonsense if a man such as Ross Perot was in the White House?
