I was truly and pleasantly surprised by how engrossing this book was. A collection of tales woven together and masterfully narrated. I reminded me of Rod Serling's Night Gallery and also the style of H.P.Lovecraft.

Sylvia Plath's sad but fascinating semi-autobiographical journey through clinical depression toward suicidal and mental instability is a gripping story. At first it reminded me of "The Catcher in the Rye" then quickly into "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". What captivated me are the thoughts shared by Esther Greenwood along the way and her interaction with the people who she encounters.

George Eliot's novel is long, thorough, particularly well-written, and her characters are interesting. But it is the amazing talent of narrator, Juliet Stevenson, who brings all of the characters, both male and female, to life. She is now one of my favorites and is easy to listen to over the ~35 hours of reading. Due to many relationships through the story I found it helpful to listen to 4-5 chapters then read the related plot summaries online to reinforce the story in my mind. Silas Marner remains my favorite George Eliot novel but again, if Juliet Stevenson narrates it, I'll listen to it.

Having recently been in the market for a diamond engagement ring I read all of the web sites and watched all of the YouTube videos to familiarize myself with the world of diamonds and to become as knowledgeable as possible. This study lit the fire for my interest so, when scrolling for a new audiobook to read I stumbled upon the book, Diamonds. With good reviews I downloaded it and began reading a book unlike the numerous other stories that I read...and I was enthralled! The book explores and presents the science of diamond formation, the history of diamond discovery, mining, and trade, the geometry of diamond cutting and polishing, and the legends of the world's largest gems. While this book should be required reading for jewelers and gemologists, it is also a great read especially for anyone who owns a piece of diamond jewelry.

I Love Reading Steinbeck!

Twenty or thirty years ago I read five of John Steinbeck's better known and more popular books and thoroughly each one. Having just finished reading the works of another unrelated author I was looking for something new to read. On a lark I browsed John Steinbeck's name to look at the many other works that I hadn't yet read and was surprised by the glowing reviews given to "The Wayward Bus" by numerous listeners and can now see why. I was immediately immersed in the story and involved in the lives of each character. His descriptions are so vivid and colorful that it is just a pleasure to read. I highly recommend this book and will be downloading yet another of his works now that I am reminded again why I so greatly enjoyed his works so many years ago.

I've read 2001, 2010, 2061, 3001, and Collected Stories of Arthur C Clark and loved each one. When looking for something else by the author I stumbled upon Rendezvous With Rama and was impressed by the highly scored and glowing reviews so I downloaded it. Having just now finished it I have to agree with all of the others who loved the book. What I always like best about the Clark novels is that the science is thoroughly researched and supports the story making the fantastic seem realistic. Of all of his novels and stories that I have had the pleasure to read so far, Rama is now easily my favorite.

I was flipping through various audiobooks when I saw that the book summary likened it to Where the Crawdads Sing, which I really enjoyed... so I got it and wasn't disappointed. The story was interesting and the writing excellent but the narration was a bit fast, particularly when mentioning several character names at once. When I slowed it down a bit it was much easier to follow. Overall it was an enjoyable read about a particularly dark and dangerous time in American history.

The colorful stories of Mark Twain are always wonderful. But as many others have said, it is the talent of actor Elijah Wood (The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy) who brought Huck Finn to life. I listened to Tom Sawyer and really hadn't planned to read Huckleberry Finn but the reviews were so unanimously favorable that I downloaded it. Born in Iowa, which is only one state away from the setting in Missouri, Wood just seems to have the perfect voice for this role. I loved Tom and Huck's yarns and superstitions. If you want to read this great novel, then this is the version that you would want to hear.

For years I have watched the movie every time that it aired and loved it but now realize that I love the original book upon which it was based even more. The book explains much more fully each scene from the movie in much greater detail including the thoughts and feelings of the characters. The narrator did a fine job, too, including the chilling voice of HAL-9000.

I am a reader of classics, science, some drama, and some horror. Due to its short 90 minute length I flipped past this one until I read some of the comments, which were highly positive... so I gave it a try. This audiobook is a dramatization and all of the narrators / characters were top notch, especially Pallavi who was particularly relatable. I've read quite a few audiobooks but, for as unique and as entertaining as this one was I'd confidently put it in my top five. Very highly recommended!
