Trite story very similar to the Acres Of Diamonds fable. I found The latter to be a far better story. I probably would have return it unfinished if the reader hadn’t compelled me to listen until the end.

Historia
Kentucky, 1850. An enslaved groom named Jarret and a bay foal forge a bond of understanding that will carry the horse to record-setting victories across the South. When the nation erupts in civil war, an itinerant young artist who has made his name on paintings of the racehorse takes up arms for the Union. On a perilous night, he reunites with the stallion and his groom, very far from the glamor of any racetrack.

Historia
It happened the day of the Moon Festival. It could have been left behind, they all could have moved on with their lives. But secrets have a habit of rising to the surface, especially in small towns. Two couples, four ironclad friendships, the perfect coastal holiday town. With salt-stung houses perched like lifeguards overlooking the shore, Lago Point is the scene of postcards, not crime scenes. Wife and mother Abbi, town cop Blake, schoolteacher Hannah and local doctor Will are caught in their own tangled webs of deceit.

Whining of female characters very unappealing
Revisado: 01-15-22
Story had great promise but I just couldn’t stand the spineless women woven through the narrative. I also couldn’t understand how many people made stupid decisions. I thought the reader really good until she took on a pathetic whiny voice. I almost returned the book on multiple occasions and having finished the book still wonder why I didn’t. So it looks like I also am guilty of making a stupid decision.

Historia
Anna Karenina is widely considered to be one of Leo Tolstoy’s best works. Essentially a tragic love story, Anna Karenina tells the story of the rebellious and beautiful Anna and her passionate affair with Count Vronsky. Anna’s heartbreaking story unfolds against the colorful backdrop of 19th-century Russia, amid a hypercritical and unforgiving society that will never accept her for who she really is.

This classic was performed exceptionally well
Revisado: 11-11-18
I last read this classic Russian novel 50 years ago. It started me on a Russian novel binge. I decided to go back and listen to the novel to rediscover what it was that fascinated me so many years ago. I was not disappointed. It is reputed to be one of the finest novels ever written. I'm not sure I would go that far only because I thought the details of some of the scenes and the length of the book would not appeal to a younger reader. Personally, I could not put it down. #classic, #russian, #historic, #cultural, #Tagsgiving, #Sweepstakes

I rarely write reviews but this book deserves to be read or listened to by anyone interested in Amish life today. I am about to listen to it a second time, something I never do. It is that compelling!

Could not stand whiney voice of narrator
Revisado: 10-15-16
I can't even finish this book which is a shame as I'm slightly interested in how the story plays out even though it is fairly obvious. The narrator is no doubt skillful but her slow whiney style is impossible for me to listen to.

Historia
Emerson Knight is introverted and eccentric and has little to no sense of social etiquette. Good thing he's also brilliant, rich, and (some people might say) handsome, or he'd probably be homeless. Riley Moon has just graduated from Harvard Business and Harvard Law. Her aggressive Texas spitfire attitude has helped her land her dream job as a junior analyst with megabank Blane-Grunwald. At least Riley Moon thought it was her dream job, until she is given her first assignment: babysitting Emerson Knight.

Just plain sick of books with this predictable theme.
Revisado: 09-02-16
Beautiful smart young woman gets involved with incredibly wealthy hunky guy and they beat all odds. What totally pisses me off is that the woman, with 3 degrees from an Ivy League school, starts saying and doing very stupid things in the first couple of chapters. So cliche, men are smarter no matter the degree of education each has or has not achieved. Book was so bad I think I'm going to return it. I actually bought it based on reviews, heaven help us all!
