Historia
Hunters of the guild wait all year for the Festival of Knives, when they put their skills to the test and claim new ranks with every fiend they slay. Trapped helping the family business instead of pursuing his own career, Trellin has never been allowed to participate. But when he risks expulsion to sneak out and claim a kill beyond his rank, his hunt is spotted by a senior guildmember. Rather than turn him in, she offers him a chance for freedom: Join her, and sail to the distant isle of Deldynne to compete in the bloody race for the rank of Guildmaster.

I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. It was a great book to listen to in the car. It made my commute much more fun. I'm looking forward to the next book.

Historia
Sloppy drinking habits. Stunted love life. Professional humiliation in a doomed celebrity trial. It’s no wonder high-strung Texas attorney Katie flees for the serenity of a tropical island, even if it’s the one where her parents died in a tragic accident. But when she gets there, the accident looks a lot like murder, the island seems more sinister than serene, and there’s no one to save Katie from the bad guys, except for herself.

The narration detracted from story
Revisado: 06-11-15
Would you be willing to try another book from Pamela Fagan Hutchins? Why or why not?
Maybe if the narrator was different.
How could the performance have been better?
The narration was distracting. Her attempt at accents was especially bad. The NY/NJ one was about the worst I've ever heard.
Any additional comments?
The story wasn't fabulous but it wasn't awful either. I think it could have been a lightweight but fun listen if it had a different reader.

Historia
There are scratches on Cèsar Hawke's arms, a discharged Glock on his coffee table, and a dead woman in his bathtub. Yeah, maybe he brought the waitress home for some fun-he was too drunk to remember it-but he knows for a fact that he didn't kill her. He's an agent with the Office of Preternatural Affairs. He doesn't hurt people. He saves them. The cops disagree. Now Cèsar is running.

What did you love best about Witch Hunt?
This was a bit Dresden Files like. It was a perfectly entertaining for listening to on a long road trip. I didn't expect much from it when I downloaded it right before I left on a car trip, but it exceeded my expectations. I may end up buying the next one. The narration was perfectly OK.

Historia
Policing relations between Heaven, Hell, and Earth is messy and violent, but Elise Kavanagh and James Faulkner excelled at it - until coming across a job so brutal that even they couldn't stand to see one more dead body. Now they've been pretending to be normal for five years, leaving their horrific history a dark secret. Elise works in an office. James owns a business. None of their friends realize they used to be one of the world's best killing teams. After years of hiding, something stirs. Bodies are vanishing. Demons scurry in the shadows of the night. A child has been possessed.

Narration spoiled the book
Revisado: 08-01-14
Would you try another book from SM Reine and/or Saskia Maarleveld?
I would try another book by this author but have made a note never to buy another book narrated by Saskia Maarleveid. Her habit of drawing out the ends of so many words was distracting and annoying. The narration made it very hard to follow the story.

The Case for God

Historia
Moving from the Paleolithic age to the present, Karen Armstrong details the great lengths to which humankind has gone in order to experience a sacred reality that it called by many names, such as God, Brahman, Nirvana, Allah, or Dao. Focusing especially on Christianity but including Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Chinese spiritualities, Armstrong examines the diminished impulse toward religion in our own time, when a significant number of people either want nothing to do with God or question the efficacy of faith. Why has God become unbelievable?

Slow going
Revisado: 01-05-13
Any additional comments?
I enjoy Karen Armstrong's work and have read several of her books in print form. This however has been a tough slog. I think it's the narration. The author reads the book, and I can't pinpoint what it is that I don't enjoy but I find myself reaching for the pause button soon after I start to listen.

Historia
The Call of Cthulhu", written in 1926, is probably Lovecraft's best-known work. Discovering notes left by a deceased relative, the narrator pieces together the whole truth and disturbing significance of the Cthulhu cult. This release also contains the shorter tales "The Festival" and "The Hound", in which gravediggers bring home more than they bargained for!

Well done classic horror
Revisado: 01-05-13
Any additional comments?
The narrators did a fine job of bringing these Lovecraft tales to life. I've been a fan of Lovecraft for years but this was my first experience with these stories in audio version. I enjoyed them and it inspired me to revisit other Lovecraft stories both in print and audio.

Historia
Daisy Flattery is a free spirit with a soft spot for strays and a weakness for a good story. Why else would she agree to the outrageous charade offered by her buttoned-down workaholic neighbor, Linc Blaise? The history professor needs to have a fiancée in order to capture his dream job, and Daisy is game to play the role. But something funny happens on their way to the altar that changes everything.

Lots of fun! Maybe not Jennifer Cruise's best, but a good story anyway. The premise was a bit thin, but Link and Daisy are great characters. Lots of great details, funny, warm and sweet.
