Historia
AJ Bailey was destined to run a dive boat on the beautiful island of Grand Cayman, the Mecca of Caribbean SCUBA diving. As a young girl in England she was captivated by a story her Navy veteran grandfather told. Now, as she's closer than ever to discovering the long-lost submarine from the story, a wealthy Argentinian arrives; a treasure hunter who’ll stop at nothing to steal the prize. Can AJ find the wreck in time?

Poor writing
Revisado: 05-17-24
I was excited to read this after a trip to the Cayman Islands, but the writing is poor and amateurish. Show us, don’t tell us. Too much telling us about the main character instead of having the main character show us their personality.

Historia
Richard Dawkins' brilliant reformulation of the theory of natural selection has the rare distinction of having provoked as much excitement and interest outside the scientific community as within it. His theories have helped change the whole nature of the study of social biology, and have forced thousands to rethink their beliefs about life.

Even updated its outdated
Revisado: 05-17-24
Too much outdated information to be interesting. The chapter about computers really shows the outdatedness. Also too much personification of genes makes the whole book seem unscientific.

Historia
Since the original publication of Nudge more than a decade ago, the title has entered the vocabulary of businesspeople, policy makers, engaged citizens, and consumers everywhere. The book has given rise to more than 200 "nudge units" in governments around the world and countless groups of behavioral scientists in every part of the economy. It has taught us how to use thoughtful "choice architecture" - a concept the authors invented - to help us make better decisions for ourselves, our families, and our society.

Written for those who read the other editions
Revisado: 01-02-24
This felt like it wasn’t written for a new audience, but for those who have read the other editions. The authors assume you already have knowledge of the nudge/sludge concept and gloss over it to get to their advice on credit cards, mortgages, and retirement. If you’re new to their ideas, maybe try to find an older edition.

Just another rich guy making money
Revisado: 06-07-23
Ugh. This is my least favorite episode of this podcast. The guest has the nerve to complain about the quality of food produced in the world and has the funds to help solve the problem but does nothing. Please bring back relatable people.

More people have died exploring underwater caves than climbing Mount Everest, and we know more about deep space than we do about the depths of our oceans. From one of the top cave divers working today - and one of the very few women in her field - Into the Planet blends science, adventure, and memoir to bring listeners face-to-face with the terror and beauty of Earth’s remaining unknowns and the extremes of human capability.

Great book for women! Must read for men!
Revisado: 02-03-23
Women don’t have to be cave divers to appreciate the author’s experience of being a female in a male-dominated sport. If you’ve ever been the only woman at the table, this book will make you feel validated and seen. Not to mention it’s packed with the author’s adventures as a cave explorer! This is read by the author whose wonder and emotion comes through her retelling. Wonderful!!!

Historia
This is Kazuo Ishiguro's profoundly compelling portrait of a butler named Stevens. Stevens, at the end of three decades of service at Darlington Hall, spending a day on a country drive, embarks as well on a journey through the past in an effort to reassure himself that he has served humanity by serving the "great gentleman," Lord Darlington. But lurking in his memory are doubts about the true nature of Lord Darlington's "greatness," and much graver doubts about the nature of his own life.

Newer work is better
Revisado: 10-28-21
This is a good book. I think those who work in the service industry or as teachers and caregivers might find meaning in this story. I prefer the author’s newer works. This one didn’t get interesting until about 2/3rds through, but that could be because of the popularity of shows like Downton Abbey. We know how service worked during that era, so it’s not until we learn specifics about this particular household that the book gets it’s twist on the theme. If you like the thoughtful takes on what it means to get older and see time pass, also checkout Klara and the Sun.

It’s a long read and is full of descriptions of mundane things. It’s also written in the form of a hauntingly beautiful memoir. I listened to it over the course of two days; I couldn’t turn it off.
