tasteful romance & characterization, entertaining

The book has interesting characters that are developed subtly and action that moves fast enough to keep me entertained. The romance was there, but wasn't overwhelming and was managed without graphic or intrusive details. That makes the book appropriate for more audiences, and the plot is interesting enough to keep me curious about the next installment (of the series?). The magical science and the academic touches of history woven into the story keep it grounded in the reader's world while introducing new dimensions and ideas.
Hope we hear more from Ms. Deborah Harkness..

A romantic suspense read with good characterization and action. The heroine is fallible enough for the reader to develop empathy, and the other characters are also likable and amusing. A good light read that holds interest and entertains. Would like to hear some more of Piper's adventures in Audible.
