Historia
It's the second-to-last day of archaeological field school. The students are working on a prehistoric gravesite when a much more recent burial is uncovered. The skeleton is articulated, the bone fresh, and the vertebrae still connected by soft-tissue. It's a case forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan has to take. But her investigations soon have her in too deep - her entire view of humanity is challenged, and the further she probes, the more she seems to be putting herself in danger.

Terrible Narration
Revisado: 12-01-08
I was looking forward to this book as I had heard good reports of the author. Unfortunately the book is let down by its plodding and inappropriate narration, that sounds like the book is being read for an audience of kindergarten children. The emotions expressed in the narrator in the reading, do not match the events or emotions in the book. It really spoiled the experience for me.

10% Plot, 40% Sex & 50% Talking about Sex
Revisado: 02-22-08
Predictable, clich?d & sickly sweet
I was looking forward to an interesting historical novel with a bit of romance, but this is basically a very soppy romance (read sex) novel with just the tiniest bit of history as a backdrop.
I don't mind romance but this was so predictable. I should have known when I read that the names of the main characters were Wolf, Dragon and Hawk. Every description of bodies or sex was so clich?d. I very quickly had enough of marbled thighes and granite shoulders - please be a bit more imaginative. The sex scenes, of which there are many, are so contrived and unbelievable that they deserve to be put in a new genre beyond fantasty.
It is a shame that the bones of a such a good story could be clothed in such poor writing.

Like Listening to Elevator Music
Revisado: 02-22-08
A detective story should be thrilling, enthralling and a little scary. Unfortunately, this novel is like listening to elevator music. It does have a good plot, but is weighed down by middle class, civil service English convention and an irritating lack of characters with any depth whatsoever. The dialogues are protracted and tiresome. The author appears to have little insight into human nature and has turned every character into a clich? that is conventional, empty and flat. Turning this book off three-quarters of the way through, was like hearing the school bell at the end of a particularly boring day. Ahhh... the relief.

Whew... not for the faint hearted
Revisado: 08-22-06
This book is remarkably well written and fantastically narrated by the author. Billy Morgan is a humourous, intelligent, straight talking character, who you warm to immediately. As her life unfolds, you gain insight into a dark and cruel world, that only Billy's strength of character, resilience and humour allows her to survive (albeit, not entirely intact).
This remarkably brave writing has the ring of truth and authenticity that can only come from real life experience. I enjoyed reading this book very much, but must caution that it is no light tale and if you are looking for an airy, feel good story - this book it not for you.
However, if you are brave enough to face our society's reality at its worst, if you are ready to laugh and cry, if you want to read a moving and remarkably well told story - Give Billy Morgan a try.

PITIFULLY DISMAL
Revisado: 05-20-06
This is without a doubt the worst book I have ever listened to. Im not sure which was worse, the abysmal reading or the incredibly inept dialogue. The reader attempted accents that were far beyond his abilities that were neither convincing nor consistent. He must have put little time and effort into actually reading the book before he read it as he regularly expressed emotions incorrectly. E.g. 'You wont get away with this' Nic shouts angrily, is read in a mincing, whiney voice that sounds anything but angry. Then there is the dialogue, which is so totally unrealistic that it must have been written by someone who has spent his entire life living under a rock.
If you can actually get past the pathetic reading, ridiculous characters and the incredibly unreal dialogue, you may discover that there is actually the skeleton of a good story line. This story line was unfortunately spoiled by writing and reading styles so obnoxious, they leave me wondering how this book ever got published.
Save your money, there are plenty of other good books out there.

WARNING-SHOCKING, GRAPHIC, EXCITING
Revisado: 09-06-05
When I began listening to Black House I was shocked by the graphic portrayal of a cannabalistic, serial child killer, to the point that I nearly dropped the book into the garbage. Fortunately, I persevered and even though some chapters had me wincing and trying not to form mental pictures, I found Black House a fantastic tale. The good guys are really good and will steal your hearts; the bad guys will have you forming your own vigilante gangs, hopping onto Harley's and 'blasting the scum'. All in all, an intricately woven plot, very well developed characters and a plot that will keep you listening - even at night when all is dark, the house is creaking and you know it is freaking you out!! BUT BE WARNED IT IS VERY GRAPHIC.

Once again Michael Crichton gives us his trademark combination of page-turning suspense, cutting-edge technology, and extraordinary research. State of Fear is a superb blend of edge-of-your-seat suspense and thought provoking commentary on how information is manipulated in the modern world.

Forget the environment - save yourselves
Revisado: 04-02-05
I have read and enjoyed many of Crichton's books and was surprised at the amateurish approach of this one. I kept expecting it to improve and by the time I got half way through had convinced myself that it wasn't the same author. The plot is poor and disconnected, the grammer is woeful - he actually says at one point, that something is "nervous making". The conversations have so much "He said", "She said", it nearly drove me mad.
By the end of the book, feeling sure that this couldn't be THE Michael Crichton, I was wondering how this bloke ever got published.
This book goes for 18 hours, this time would be better spent in filling out your tax return or jamming bamboo splinters under your nails - it certainly would be less painful.
