Historia
The winter of 1799 is falling fast on the small Ohio Territory settlement of Hugh's Lick. Food is scarce, and relations with the Delaware tribe are strained; but things are about to get much worse. In the midst of a storm, frontiersman Cole Seavey is attacked by a creature that is neither man nor beast but something burst forth from the bowels of hell and reeking of the grave. Badly injured, he is rescued by Pakim, a young Delaware brave, and is taken to safety at the home of John Chapman.

Enough resurrections to put Jesus to shame
Revisado: 10-19-19
About two-thirds of the way into this book, I was ready to kill off the hero myself in order to end this repetitious book. The author really beats the "cat and mouse" strategy to death. The characters repeated suffer what should be mortal wounds but then get-up and continue to fight on another day. Hence, I use the term resurrections. The story and its premise are not bad, it's just that the author dragged-out the book to the point of it becoming tedious. The narrator gets my five stars for his excellence and the author gets my two stars. I give him two stars only because of the repetitions in his story, otherwise, I think he is a good author.

Female Narrator

I didn't get very far into this book as I had trouble with the female narrator trying to do masculine voices. It just didn't work for me.

Historia
During the Civil War, two young soldiers on opposite sides find themselves drawn together. One is a war-weary scholarly Southerner who has seen too much bloodshed, especially the tortures inflicted upon the enemy by his vicious commanding officer. The other is a Herculean Yankee captured by the rag-tag Confederate band. When these two find themselves admiring more than each other's spirit and demeanor, when passions erupt between captor and captive, will this new romance survive the arduous trek to Purgatory Mountain?

WHY TOO MUCH SADISTIC TORTURE
Revisado: 04-19-19
I feel I was rather harsh in my initial review of Purgatory, therefore I want to amend that review. I still hold the same opinion regarding the amount of time the author spent on describing the sadistic torture. And yes, it did ruin a lot of this book for me. I don't mind reading a little descriptive sadistic torture, but ln "Purgatory" it was entirely overdone,
However, I must give credit where credit is due. I liked the author's style of writing. As a wordsmith, he is actually very good. The narrator is just outstanding. I gave his performance 5 stars because of his ability to do so many voice characters and for his pleasant natural voice. I hope I can listen to him narrate other books. The overall premise as a gay love story could be very good if the violent torture had been toned down.
My Initial Review:
If you are into sadistic torture, then you will love this book. The author's fixation on descriptive torture really ruined most of the book for me. You have a Yankee prisoner who is tortured by the Rebs to the point where no man could possibly live. He bleeds enough for ten people. After every torture session, a Johnny Reb who has the hots for him bandages him, then they have sex (even though he is in critical condition) and then the Yank is good for another day of torture. Totally unrealistic.
P.S. Last but not least I have decided to read the sequel, "Salvation". Thus far there has not been near the amount of sadistic torture that was so prevalent in "Purgatory".

He wanted to be a Queen, not an Earl.
Revisado: 05-18-18
The main character (Pen) is a transvestite male who is in a constant identity crisis. The whole thing was rather a "drag". (pun intended) In the story, Pen does not want to become the next Earl as he will have to act straight, so he ends up being a Queen.............a drama Queen. The cockney accents in all three books of this trilogy were thicker than molasses and didn't fit some of the chracters. This authors first two books of this trilogy were much better.

Needs Character Differentiation
Revisado: 05-02-18
What did you love best about Old Loyalty, New Love?
It was a pleasant story
What was one of the most memorable moments of Old Loyalty, New Love?
No one moment
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Yes, and no. The pace was fine and Tristan James voice was easy to listen to, however, half the time I could not tell which of the two main characters was speaking. The narrator needed to DEVELOP his character voices MUCH more than he did. This confusion carried throughout the book, not always know who was speaking. VERY CONFUSING AT TIMES.

CAPTAIN NEEDS A NEW VOICE
Revisado: 04-20-18
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, it was enjoyable except for the Captain's voice.
What other book might you compare Kidnapped by the Pirate to and why?
Can't say
What about Cornell Collins’s performance did you like?
As a narrator Cornell Collins is excellent. However, in the case of the Captian's voice, he was disappointing. One of the things that attract a reader to a particular book is the book jacket. One this book jacket is the picture of two YOUNG VIRIL MEN who appear to be about ten years apart in age. Thus you get a mindset of now only how old the characters are, but also how they look. However, OMG, when I first heard the voice of Captain Hawk, all I could envision was the pirate Blue Beard speaking from his nursing home bed. The voice and the picture of the captain are years apart in age. This bothered me through the entire book. For this reason, I give this book my "Four Stars.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No
Any additional comments?
If you are going to picture the main character(s) on the book jacket, PLEASE USE AN AGE APPROPRIATE VOICE.
